Astronomers have detected the most distant galaxy yet, one with a redshift of 10, meaning that it is 13.2 billion light-years away. It may be among the first objects in the universe to generate their own light.

No link. This is from the May 2004 Scientific American, page 40.

Cool!!!

So....how long to get there at Warp 9.9?? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif I'll bet it's a loooooooong time.

It all depends on the structural integrity of the dilithium crystals, some of which tend to crack when stressed above Warp 8.0 for appreciable lengths of time.

The best crystals are reputed to come from the Zandivarian system, from which we have been cut off ever since they found out Al Gore was in contention for the presidency of a major earth social system -- they didn't send him here for such purposes and consider him an outlaw, and they refuse to deal with planets that condone intergalactic outlaws in high-level politics.

Hence we're condemned to using second-class dilithium crystals from the Mephisto system at the far edge of the Great Attractor's sphere of influence. These crystals work just fine at garden-variety warp speeds but develop cracks along the crystal faces at ultrawarp speeds (in excess of Warp 8). No Federation ship employs these crystals.

This be serious shit, dude. It's no joke blowing a DC at Warp 9.
