Biden backs letting soldiers arrest civilians
By Joyce Howard Price
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

entire article... (http://www.washtimes.com/national/20020722-6619304.htm)

Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr., Delaware Democrat, yesterday strongly endorsed giving soldiers the power to arrest American civilians.
Interviewed yesterday on "Fox News Sunday," Mr. Biden, a member of the Judiciary Committee, said the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, which prevents the military from exercising police powers in this country, should be re-examined and "has to be amended."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Such a change will happen soon, he said.
Mr. Biden said that "we're not talking about general police power, changing the idea that you would have your local National Guard with arrest power like your local policeman."
But "it's not very realistic" that, under the current law, soldiers with knowledge of weapons of mass destruction, who might be checking out the discovery of a terrorist weapon in the United States, would "not be able to exercise the same power a police officer would in dealing with that situation."
"Right now, when you call in the military, the military would not be able to shoot to kill, if they were approaching the weapon," nor could they arrest any suspects. Mr. Biden is chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Joe that's why we have police. We sure as hell don't need the military given the powers he describes.
So, how does he feel about civilians arresting soldiers.
That might be important if we have soldier-police.
Why would anyone want to listen to what this plagiaristic doll head (hair plugs) has to say? For him to even suggest such a thing just goes to show that he's an insane idiot.
Police officers enforce the law. Soldiers kill enemy combatants. Any questions?
I have zero problem with these military folks who have been trained in what we used to call "CBR" warfare (chem, bio, rad) to work with LEOs anytime it looks to be helpful. It seems to me they're like the BATF bomb-squad folks; they'll never come in contact with a Bad Guy at the scene of the Horrible. The Bad Guy has gone home to watch it all on TV!
I still say the thing to keep in mind is that Biden, et al, are scared spitless. Scared people don't care who gets hurt, so long as it's not them. They don't give a tinker's dam about your rights, health or safety; they're only worried about themselves.
I never thought I'd ever see the day when conservatives would back such an insane idea, that federal troops could arrest citizens. Hypocrits!
I honestly think you have lost your minds....just like the good German people. Only their hero was Hitler...yours is GW/Asscroft and Ridge.
Mule, you're so fulla brown stuff, your eyeballs is glued shut.
In the first place, who said anybody here supports soldiers as police? And even if somebody did, what's hypocritical about it? You never heard of martial law? Under martial law, soldiers are in charge of a given area.
I don't trust Joe Biden in anything and would want to know a lot of particulars before going along with anything he supports.
Mule, given the percentage of flat-out negative comments, here, about the deal, how in the world do you come up with that comment?
War?? This aint no war!
War against terror? What a joke.
Our soldiers are out there playing an easy war game, lovin every minute of this "war".
Hell, the only enemy is ourselves from accidents, the Canadians and those pesky wedding party goers.
The pointless comment is yours. You, the incrementalist prophet, can't connect dots?
We aren't in war now. But we could could be almost any minute. That's the whole point. When or if we get in a war that might reach our own shores in some way -- I'll name the possible enemies since you can't connect those dots: N. Korea, Iraq, China -- it would be useful to have worked out ahead of time how the civilian structure will work on the ground with the military structure. We have no live experience with this.
Are you deliberately being obtuse, were you just born that way, or are you joking?
Your ignorant twattle is getting harder and harder to take, Mule. You seem to think the war you fought was the only serious war there ever was. You're apparently infected with the same "poor me" syndrome so many Vietnam vets have. "I was in Vietnam, the hardest war there ever was, so only I can comment with authority on war."
Bullshit.
Soldiers love any war until they and people they know start getting hurt. Many of them still like it even then.
The only enemy is hardly ourselves, though you could certainly be counted among the enemy, the way you cheer the other side and denigrate your own. What happened on 911 is what this is all about. The people who hate us enough to do that are the enemy. Is it too much to expect you to take this enemy seriously? He could kill your family, you know.
Grow up, Mule.
Well, Foxie...you blew it again.
I liked being in Nam...I was young and had a pretty good time, actually. I never said a word complainin about my "plight". I dont have and damn syndromes or such crap.
When I talk about this being a pussy war, I am comparin it to REAL wars like WWII and WWI.
Vietnam was a joke. WOT is a bigger joke.
Foxie...sometimes you are just plain ol stupid.
Never ever try to think for me, Foxie.
I don't want a war on our soil either but if it's going to be here I want the best trained most qualified Americans to fight it here. The Constitution provides for it. Ridge said no way would the military replace local law enforcement but to assist in the event of another attack. That's what the military is trained to do.
Your benevolent gubbermint saw Nam as a joke.
Them people died over there for nothing, except for a few in the industrial-military complex. It was a money making scheme.
Of course back then, I believed somewhat in patriotism and was an idealist (read that fool). I actually was naive enough to think we were fighting to stop communism!! And I thought Amerika was a great and wonderful place. Then I came back. hahahaha!!
What a crock of shit.
We lost the war. Nam is now commie. They are doing pretty well, actually.
Rad...because I am a REAL Amerikan. I still believe in the BOR and the constitution, unlike you.
Vietnam is better off now than when we stuck our nose in there, that's for sure.
No, Rad..I think it's you that need to go somewhere and live under facism, what you propose for the US of Amerika.
So, get goin, boy!! hahahhahahha
Mule you haven't been back to Vietnam and you haven't interviewed the people there. I believe the South Vietnamese would disagree with you. Here is a poem written by one of my brother's platoon buddies.
quote:
Now I know that I'll have to wait
In a country full of grief and hate
Can you blame these people for the way they feel
They don't want to fight, they don't want to kill
But their neighbors from the north
Intruded their land
And these peace-loving people
Have made their stand
They have asked for help from the USA
After living with these people how can anyone say
Draft beer not students! Ban the bomb!
Can't you see that for these people, freedom was near gone?
Now I ask you as a friend and a human being
Do you actually know what your saying?
It's not our War, leave it alone
Get out of there, bring our men home
Yes, that would be nice
But what a price we would pay
Just standing on the side
Watching their freedom fade away
When the US went to Nam, all that was accomplished was to kill a whole lot of our soldiers and a whole lot of Vietnamese civilians and commies. And make some fat cat bidnessmen and politicains RICH.
Hey..the commies WON.
Oh, hey...but the benevolent gubbermint did build a fvckin wall memorial that is under ground level. Whoop te do.
Mule, the only joke is your response. This is like comparing one illness or disability to another. One person is a paraplegic, another is blind and yet another has an illness that causes some type of periodic suffering. Are you going to say that one of these problems is a "pussy" medical problem?
Don't answer that. I'm sure your illogical approach would conclude that one of these conditions is a "pussy" condition.
All wars require sacrifice and each one presents its own types of demands. Granted, WWI & WWII were very demanding on a large population of troops but I very much doubt that those 58,184 solders that gave their lives in Nam would appreciate you calling it a "pussy" war.
I have never been a proponent of sensitivity training but if ever there was a person that needed it, it is YOU
The creation of a police state.
