Hey, I received this in my email box at FR. Right after the blast, dad said, "They finally got me. Mafia, Emprise..... get them....." So for years I thought it was the mob because that was his job, exposing the mob.
But now this email makes me wonder big time. I don't wanna lose sleep over it but.... cuckoo theory or possibility?? Just posting this for those interested in white collar crime....

#38: FBI to pay $2 million in Earth First suit ^
To: dbolles
Lori Bailey was the FBI Agent in charge of the $2 to 3 million, 50+ agent FBI operation against Earth First! carried out in Arizona from 1987 until at least 1989. Problem for the FBI is, that if the legal case had continued, the bombings ordered and committed by FBI agent David Hale (http://www.azstarnet.com/sn/mafiabombings/8448.php) at the home of Arizona organized crime bosses Joseph Bonanno Sr. and at a ranch owned by Peter J. Licavoli Sr., both retired mob leaders. No one knows how many have emigrated to Arizona in recent years, though reporter Don Bolles once wrote a series on organized crime called "The Newcomers" that put over 200 Mafia members or associates in the state.
Problem is, on June 2, 1976 somebody set off a bomb in Phoenix investigative reporter and organized crime investigator Don Bolles car. And if the Earth First! court investigations had gone on, it might have turned out that it wasn't mob guys who got Bolles, but a bomb planter working for the FBI, or who thought they were. Just like the Tulsa and Boston FBI feds on the payroll of the Boston mob, it begins to look like at least some in the Phoenix office were getting a paycheck from the mob, too. And there's no statute of lmitationsa on the Bolles murder, and some of those Boston office Fibbies have gone to jail over their complicity in helping set up mob killings.

Bad enough that an FBI agent was trying to get Arizona mob bosses in a war with each other, but their implication in murdering a mob reporter would take it a level higher. And Hale's connection to another case two years later would be a step beyond that: the murder of a US Senator's mistress. The BATF and FBI were caught attempting political assassinations before, so a bombing of the Earth First workers could look to a jury like more of the FBI COINTELPRO political assassinations, and that gets back to FBI involvement in the Martin Luther King murder in Memphis in 1968. It's not as if it was just a one-time event, and again, there's no statute of limitations on murder, even those committed by FBI agents. And those charges could have gone beyond Lori Bailey, all the way up to a FBI Director. It's worth a couple million dollars, which doesn't come from the FBI but from taxpayers, to keep things from going that far.
