Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton says she will not run for president in 2004. Mrs. Clinton also made a commitment to New Yorkers that she would only consider the vice presidential spot if asked.
Well, during his 1990 campaign for governor, Bill Clinton told the voters of Arkansas that he would complete his full term if re-elected and not run for president in 1992. Two years later he was being sworn in on the U.S. Capitol steps. So much for commitments.
Politics is a brutal business of name identification, money and organization. Today, Mrs. Clinton has all three of these at her fingertips, while years from now she may not.

To rid herself of her husband's baggage, all that is needed is another affair to surface, a divorce, and she becomes another 'victim' which helped her polls numbers before.
There are 52 million female voters and only 48 million male voters in this country.

Barb there may be 52 million female voters in this country, but I'll wager that the majority of them do not support Hillary!

Hillary won't run until 2008 unless her own blind ambition leads her to believe that GW is vulnerable. By 2008 her own radio activity will have cooled with no media reporting anything about her many scandals except to show how mean the Republicans are still. The good news is that by 2008 she will be six years uglier and fatter.

You might be surprised to hear how many are rooting for the first female president, know nothing about Hillary's background or politics in general and will vote for her simply because of her celebrity and gender.

And how many will vote against her for the same reason. Her problem is that she pisses off as many voters as she attracts.

Perhaps she and Bill can go on "60 Minutes" again and this time Bill, instead of Hillary, will look at the camera and say "if you don't believe her, vote for someone else. I stand by my man!"
I always thought Hillary was a bigger man or is that Janet Reno. I'm so confused! images/icons/grin.gif

Barb, although you do have a point, I doubt that these women make a big enough number to get the Wicked Witch of the Senate elected.
I loathe this idea of voting for a woman (any woman) just for the sake of having a female president. It's affirmative action at it's most dangerous, and no mistake. I mean, no self-respecting woman would want to have such pond scum as Hitlary represent her gender, let alone her country. The very idea is apalling.

I am fairly active in politics and just reporting what I'm hearing as I have my ear tuned in to anything that goes on around me. I am especially interested in the women's vote as I've worked on the Ted Kennedy/Mitt Romney race in Senate race in '94, and involved in Mitt's current run for Gov. I'm just saying that the sheer numbers of women voters 52 mil. vs. male 48 mil. is something that we shouldn't ignore. Historically, women lean toward the Democrat candidate, and I wonder if the numbers won't go even higher when she takes a run for it.
Mainly, GOP females are business owners or have special interests in government, politics or the military. Sadly, far too many want big government as a safety net.
As for your comment about voters not knowing about Hillary's antics over the last 12 years-that they either don't know or care...BINGO! Those of us who are political junkies are shocked at the 'celebrity' thing and lack of knowledge on issues.
In all fairness to the women, there are far too many males that don't know that much about the issues but for various reasons vote Dem. all the way.
Hope I haven't offended anyone, but I'm sort of a straight shooter.

Hi Maggie! You should tell the above to my aunt, who is a lifelong Republican and will vote for HRC.
I meant to mention in an earlier post, that she is the media darling and while they cannot give her quite the pass they did against Rick Lazio, you can take this to the bank...they will give her the most favorable press they can get away with.
Also, look at how all the potential presidential Dem. candidates at the recent DLC meeting were shoved aside, with the media giving HILLARY all the rave reviews.

Some of you guys are giving the voters credit for brains they may not have. I hate it but I have to agree with Barb on this one. I hate the fact that Hillary does have a legitimate shot at the White House in 2008. Although it does have a bit to do with who runs with President Bush in 2004.
The young girls turning 18 will vote for Hillary in droves because they were 10 when Bill got out of office and they are not gonna remember anything about that Admin. They will just go on the fact that a woman is running for President. Impetuous youth!
If the GOP tries to tie her to her husband's scandals, the voters will see it as a witch hunt and it will help Hillary. Remember she stood by her man through it all.
I hope I am wrong in everything I just typed!

I think Bab's or Alec will suggest she should run and it will be reported in the press that a ground swell of support for her to run. Then she will say she has a mandate from the people.
And Phil Donuthole will do a special on the support she has.
BUT I don't think the country will stand for another Clinton in the White House.

You're not wrong - you've nailed it. The media will protect her from any serious debate, claiming she's a victim, and (gasp) a female at that as they did with the Lazio/Clinton debate when he dared approach her podium. That in itself was enough to catipult her into the NY Senator's seat. images/icons/shocked.gif

It is not a question of love or hate, Warlady! Hillary is a very marketable candidate and objective political people can see that. I do not see another woman that could possibly run anytime in the near future and have a legit shot at actually winning.
Anyway, hopefully, the folks who know of her will vote against her but the younger voters won't care about old scandals. They are too stupid to even understand most of the Clinton scandals anyway.
She will get minorities to vote for her because of HillaryCare and all her past work with and for children. Of course the NOW gang, NEA and all the other unions will vote for her.......
I have to stop coming to this thread. It is getting depressing to keep thinking about this! images/icons/grin.gif

A significant number of women, even conservative women, will vote for Hillary simply so that a woman can finally be sworn in as POTUS.
You don't believe me? Think back about 2-3 years. There was a meeting of women senators talking about the need to get more women involved and elected. Kay Balley Hutchinson herself indicated that if she had to choose between a male Republican candidate and a female Democrat, she would support the female.

I know you are right Harv and oracle but I'm hoping male voter apathy will end and they will trip over themselves to register and vote. I'm a woman and I wouldn't vote for Hillary if she were the only choice on the ballot.

No - Where did you get that idea? Nowhere did I say every woman would vote for her, but I did indicate there are more female voters than male, and the female vote historically goes to the Dem. With a woman running at the top of the ticket, I'm sure the number will increase. Dat's all.

I read that her poll numbers have increased during her time as Senator. She won her race there by 12 percent and if the polls are going up, I see no way she'll lose NY and the electoral votes there.
