From the AJC: McKinney conceded at 12:45 a.m. today. "It looks like the Republicans wanted to beat me more than the Democrats wanted to keep me," the outspoken congresswoman said.
The intensity of the contest, which played on racial issues as well as international relations, showed itself in the turnout. State and county election officials said about 45 percent of the district's registered voters turned out -- the highest for any major race in the state.
McKinney herself had fueled much of that passion with comments this spring implying that President Bush had evidence the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks were about to occur -- but didn't act because his friends stood to gain financially.
The five-term congresswoman's support of the Palestinian cause also fueled anger in the district.
On Monday, state Rep. Billy McKinney (D-Atlanta) dismissed Majette's candidacy and spelled out the reason for his daughter's tough fight: "J-E-W-S," he said on television.
On Tuesday, the elder McKinney also was losing his fight for re-election to the Georgia Legislature.
It's called "SENSE", and it finally came to your voters. I'm proud of the black people in my state for waking up to how evil these two are. Even while I must give credit where it is due. Republicans crossed over in heavy numbers to make sure Cynthia will never be in Congress again.

Just like Tom Murphy (Dem. Speaker of the GA House) and his merry band of Democrats planned. They drew the Congressional lines where he had to take on a fellow Republican.
Linder's a pretty good conservative.

Ted, thank God! is right.
I will be so happy to have this treacherous bitch gone! Less than 4 more months! Happy Day!
I just wonder what evil shenanigans, tricks, lies, thefts and malicious legislation she will undertake during her waning days.
Watch out!

Shit happens with an open primary format like Georgia has. I think I had read it was something like 10 to 1 on the Democrats side, pretty safe bet most of which were cross-party voters not so much voting for Majette but against McKinney.
As far as Barr is concerned, well I guess I'm mixed. We're losing a good conservative but also one of the biggest drug warriors in congress. Although I don't know that Linder will be any different.

I don't get it. One leftist, welfare-state demonrat recycles to another. Big deal. What's the net gain? Nothing.
PS: Why isn't dada McKinney being beaten up by the establishment media over his "Jews" statement? Or is he? I don't really watch the establishment media.

Boortz (http://www.boortz.com/nealznuz.htm) thinks that, despite the redistricting, Barr's mortal wound was largely self-inflicted:
Now – John Linder and Bob Barr. It’s hard to take a great deal of pleasure in this race. Two good Republicans, but I supported John Linder. Thankfully, he won --- BIG. My support for Linder was based on his introduction and promotion of the Fair Tax bill in congress. I also opposed Barr because he moved out of congressional district that he could have won and chose instead to reduce the number of Republicans in Georgia’s congressional delegation by one by trying to unseat Linder.
Democrats will try to take the credit for Bob Barr’s ouster. It’s a false claim. Bob Barr was the architect of his own defeat. Both Linder and Barr would be returning to Congress next year if Barr had run in the new 11th Congressional district where he already represents 70% of the population.

CC isn't the new 11th district overwhelmingly Dem now? I find it a bit disingenuous of Boortz, a Libertarian who boasts of unseating Republicans to Democrats, attacking Bob Barr.

Well, in the interest of full disclosure, I must say that everything I know about the Barr/Linder thang I learned from Boortz, so draw your own conclusions... images/icons/wink.gif
Having said that, I do remember Boortz saying at one time or another that Barr had the best chance of taking the 11th for the GOP, given that (1) many of his current constituents went into the new district, and (2) he would thus get a few percentage points of "incumbent's advantage" against a newbie Dem challenger. Boortz said at the time that if Barr didn't run there, the 11th would almost certainly go to the Dems. So in that regard, I don't think his comments were way off base.

Randy, good question. Were he a republican he'd be tarred and feathered by now. images/icons/mad.gif
BTW- I saw on Fox that Barr went in person to congratulate Linder last night and very graciously said once the primary is over republicans put it behind them and work together for a GOP victory. Class Act. imho Also why it only got reported on Fox.

While the Republican cross-over vote may have been a factor in her defeat, I suspect that they only contributed to the size of her defeat.
She should remember that those Republicans are members of that district and are entitled to have a voice in who represents them. When the lines are drawn to assure a democrat victory, their votes for their own party have been nullified and their only option for selecting who will represent them is to cross partylines and vote in the dem primary.

Barr and Linder both rank high in the ACU ratings. Barr had a 98% lifetime rating, while Linder had a 93% life time rating. Contrast this with McKinney with a 7% lifetime rating, and John Lewis with a 2% life time rating. She voted for
Record-keeping on Gun Purchases HR 2500 (Roll Call Vote No. 244 )
2001-07-18
HR 2500 (roll call vote 244). Moran (D-VA) amendment to the Commerce, Justice, State Appropriations Bill that would have allowed instant background check information, on law abiding citizens, to be kept indefinitely.Luckily this was defeated.
She was absent on this one
Budget Resolution H. Con. Res. 83 (Roll Call Vote No. 68 )
On everything else she voted negative.
Lewis voted negative on everything, except for the three times he was absent.
Check all ACU ratings here... (http://www.acuratings.com/)

From the Little Green Footballs weblog (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/) site:

UPDATE: Reader Glen Wishard contributes the theme song for McKinney’s well-deserved defeat:
(To the tune of "Have a Holly, Jolly Christmas")
Oh, the Taliban will miss you
For the end is coming fast.
To the Rosie show where losers go,
They'll ship your sorry ass.
Georgia finally wised up,
So pack your crap and scram,
To the farthest fringe of the loony bin
With Louis Farrakhan.
"Oh no," CAIR will go,
"We've been Zionized!"
Nobody listens, though,
So kiss your ass good-bye
Cause Allah thinks you're worthless,
And God's an angry Jew
So sayonara, please take Screwy Looie Farrakhan with you ....

Because Jews are not popular among the pseudo-intelligentsia these days ( they kill all those poor, peace-loving Palestinians, you know). Besides, blacks don't like Jews so there can't be anything wrong in that.
