On the extreme left wing of the Democratic Party, The Progressive Caucus http://www.dsausa.org/pc/pc.members.html is affiliated with the Democratic Socialists of America, http://www.dsausa.org/ which, in turn, is the American affiliate of the Socialist International http://www.socialistinternational.org/.

Congressional Caucus members, I would contend, should actually be called
Socialists rather than Democrats. Unlike their European counterparts, these homegrown American Socialist Congressmen try to refrain from showing their true authoritarian colors. Such displays would be too risky in an America that is still steeped in traditional freedoms. There are still enough of us out here who would boot them out of office if they revealed too much of their true stripe.

Following is the Sept. 2002 membership list of the Progressive Caucus:

Neil Abercrombie * Hawaii
Tammy Baldwin * Wisconsin
Xavier Becerra * California
David Bonior * Michigan
Corrine Brown * Florida
Sherron Brown * Ohio
Michael Capuano * Mass.

Sheila Jackson-Lee * Texas
Stephanie Tubbs Jones * Ohio
Marcy Kaptur * Ohio
Dennis Kucinich * Ohio
Tom Lantos * California

Well, I know at least 3 (Bonior, Hilliard and McKinney) that won't be there next year. Guess that makes it 56 socialists in Congress.

**DONOTDELETE**

Judging from federal spending bills, there is one in the White House also.

A reply from another forum.

When wondering about the "real" number of socialists, it might be easier to look at who are not socialists, then subtract this from the total number of Congressmen.

For instance, in the house, Ron Paul introduced Bill HR1146 -- American Sovereignty Restoration Act. This Bill has 18 co-sponsors.

Now let me see, 435 minus 19 equals 416.

Well, there you have it. 416 socialists in the HOUSE.

Amen to DONOTDELETE. That means there are 416 too many Socialists in Congress, and one too many in the white house.

Lynn Woolsey - California<!-- / message --> She represents Marin County (and most of Sonoma County), north of San Francisco. I saw her on C-SPAN once, when they were doing "special order" speeches on the House floor (any member can say anything they damn well please, and nobody cares--because no one else is there). She, Steny (how the hell did he get that name?) Hoyer, and Bernie Sanders were bellyaching about how the then-proposed FCC rules changes regarding TV and radio station ownership wer going to let Clear Channel, etc., have a near monopoly on U.S. news. The thing that got me was that there were probably not more than ten people in the chamber, yet Woolsey was as nervous as someone speaking before a group of ten-thousand. Either that, or she was drunk. How does she keep getting elected? Oh, yeah, she represents Marin County.

You could have had Nancy Pelosi (http://www.house.gov/pelosi/), Barbara Lee (http://www.house.gov/lee/), George Miller (http://www.house.gov/georgemiller/), or Henry Waxman (http://www.henrywaxman.house.gov/) instead.

mccarthy was a senator, he had nothing to do with huac Yes I know, but he was part of the broader witch hunt. and his attack on an Army General was despicable.

he was concerned with commies in the gov, and he was right
He was concerned with his own ego and loved to bully people. Were there communists in government then? Yes. Were some of the people he named later confirmed to be communist sympathizers and/or spies? Yes. Does this excuse his behavior, his bullying, his ruination of people's careers without presenting evidence etc, etc..? NO.

Cry...

We need 100 McCarthy's in the senate right now. It would take that many just to put a dent in the communist siege going on in Washington. Someone that actually realized the threat.

It's only a witch hunt if the charges ain't true....buy a clue.

Yes. Does this excuse his behavior, his bullying, his ruination of people's careers without presenting evidence etc, etc..? NO.
Maybe you should research this issue a bit. You'll find out that if people had LISTENED to him, we'd not be is such dire straits (pertaining to governance).

...and, um....Wellstone's dead....

I guess I'm the only one observant enough to note that most of the Republicans in Congress with the exception of a handful of members of the Liberty Committee are philosphically and practically socialists. They're are fiscal conservatives and constitutionalists in Republican ranks. Most Republicans advocate higher federal spending than the only avowed Socialist Congressmen Bernie Sanders. Paraphrasing Jesus, "first remove the log from your own eye, before you can see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye."

"The state is the great fiction by which everybody tries to live at the expense of everybody else."
-Frédéric Bastiat (1801–1850)

i guess you are the only one to observe something that isnt there. yeah, repubs have gone nuts with spending, but they are not conservatives. and repubs dont advocate higher spending, if their voters knew about their waste of money they would be voted out. RINOs will soon be taken out and true conservatives put in, the next 10 years will see much change in the republican party.

and frederic is wrong, liberalism is where people live off those who make money

McCarthy was one of the good guys.

Congress, Unholy Wood, and the Liberal media, have succeeded in proving McCarthy to have been dead on right. I agree we need 100 McCarthys in the Senate right now. And every one of them can be a bully.

Wow, just....wow......

Yes, I know this must come as a shock to someone who grew up believing the fabrications of the left. But McCarthy happens to have been a patriot ... and we all know how much the left despises and fears patriotism.

The amusing thing is that the left has never been able to produce one single person falsely accused (emphasis on falsely) by McCarthy, and still can't.

Here is an excerpt from Ann Coulter's latest article (I understand the futiliy of my next request, but I ask liberals to keep an open mind):

Meanwhile, I can prove that Murrow's good friend Lawrence Duggan was a Soviet spy responsible for having innocent people murdered. The brilliant and perceptive journalist Murrow was not only unaware of the hundreds of Soviet spies running loose in the U.S. government, he was also unaware that his own dear friend Duggan was a Soviet spy – his friend on whose behalf corpses littered the Swiss landscape.
Contrary to the image of the Black Night of Fascism (BNOF) under McCarthy leading to mass suicide with bodies constantly falling on the heads of pedestrians in Manhattan, Duggan was the only suicide. (By this, Ann means don't believe the innumerable Hollywood films depicting harassed film stars/directors/producers jumping off windows) After being questioned by the FBI, Duggan leapt from a window. Of course, given the people he was doing business with, he may have been pushed.

After Duggan's death, Murrow, along with the rest of the howling establishment, angrily denounced the idea that Duggan could possibly have been disloyal to America.

<!------ OAS AD 'Middle' begin ------><SCRIPT language=JavaScript><!--OAS_AD('Middle');//--></SCRIPT><!------ OAS AD 'Middle' end ------>
Well, now we know the truth. Decrypted Soviet cables and mountains of documents from Soviet archives prove beyond doubt that Lawrence Duggan was one of Stalin's most important spies. "McCarthyism" didn't kill him; his guilt did.

Liberals, of course, will flatly refuse to believe any of this. They are masters of denial when it suits their purposes. But that does not mean that facts will cease to be just because liberals would prefer to sweep them under the carpet.

That's why liberals are also so allergic to facts.

These sinners should all be killed, they are the people trying to teach demonic and satanic bulls*** in our schools, taking god out of our schools, taking every form of religion out of our governmetn, they literally rip the baby Jesus right out of the American People.

I just hope that when the judge of all judges, the lord of all lord, stands before them, they have a pretty darn-tootin good excuse.
