Tuesday's meeting of the Senate Judiciary Committee was supposed to be a routine affair — a brief consideration of some lower-court judges, a discussion of pending legislation, and a quick adjournment so senators could move on to their next appointments. It didn't work out that way. Instead, the routine gave way to an impassioned argument that revealed a level of
bitterness inside the committee that has not been seen in more than a decade. And that bitterness is not just the result of profound ideological disagreements. Now, it is personal.

The dems never met a rule or law that they couldn't change at the last minute to suit them. images/icons/rolleyes.gif

Pat 'the frog' Leapy is a drooling windbag outta touch with America.

Every Judicial nomination so far, at least the ones I've seen, have been like this one. Party line votes and game-playing. Out of power, the demon party feels threatened and their only recourse is in this stupid little committee where they can flex whatever power they have left.

Every partison ploy since Jan. 2000, has been a demon-inspired one. The problem is they're pretty good at it, expecially turning the blame back on the r's.

In July, NAACP delegates meeting at the group's convention in Houston voted to oppose Shedd's nomination. Shortly afterward, NAACP president Kwesi Mfume wrote Leahy a letter saying that "Judge Shedd's membership to [sic] the Fourth Circuit would further radicalize a court that has practiced judicial activism in a manner that hurts racial and ethnic minorities and disenfranchised Americans."<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Pure, unadulterated BULLSHIT. Queasy Bufoonery hurts the black community more and more each passing day...you guys are right on, we DEFINITELY need to get both Houses.

Orrin Hatch has just got to be ready to rip Leaky Leahy's head off!!! I heard him on Hot Talk (local talk show) last winter and he said that if he had pulle the partisan crap that the dems were pulling when he was Chair of the JC, Clinton would not have had a single appointment. He went on to say that the President has the RIGHT to place those QUALIFIED to serve on the bench and "of course Clinton is going to select liberals and of course Bush is going to select conservatives". Well, DUH!!! THAT is certainly a no-brainer, dontchathink???

Where were the denizens of the New Jersey State Legislature who passed the election law?

Why didn't even one, JUST ONE, stand up and say, "HEY!! Wait just a rippin' minute! WE made a LAW, and, unless you can SHOW where it violates the State or Federal Constitutions, we're gonna MAKE IT STICK!!!"

Needless to say, the Court failed to raise any Constitutional arguments.

I'm coming more and more to agree with Muley about some things.

And the first one is, "Anybody who still believes that the united States is a Constitutional Republic is *DELUSIONAL*!!!!!!!!

Wait a minute. I don't think that the RNC ever really believed that Forrester could win. I think that they like the dems thought their party members in NJ would just re-elect the torch.

I think this whole thing was a big surprize to them. The RNC was probably focusing on other races to take over the Senate.

To the left, the Constitution is merely toilet paper. I'd like to see just one principled liberal.... http://forums.mike-pulsifer.org/images/smiles/icon_roflmao.gif

It's not entirely clear why Leahy canceled the Shedd vote. It was widely believed inside the committee that at least one, and perhaps two or three, Democrats planned to vote for Shedd, which would easily send the nomination to the full Senate. But it is also true that in recent weeks civil-rights groups have ratcheted up their attacks on Shedd. On October 2, the Congressional Black Caucus sent a letter to Leahy repeating earlier charges that Shedd's record shows "a pattern of insensitivity toward the issues that most affect minorities." In July, NAACP delegates meeting at the group's convention in Houston voted to oppose Shedd's nomination. Shortly afterward, NAACP president Kwesi Mfume wrote Leahy a letter saying that "Judge Shedd's membership to [sic] the Fourth Circuit would further radicalize a court that has practiced judicial activism in a manner that hurts racial and ethnic minorities and disenfranchised Americans."

This was a ham-fisted threat from the slavemasters. It boiled down to Patrick "My lips are pursed 'cuz I suck" Leahy getting hammered with threats of low turnout of the black vote in key races. In Leahy's world, maintaining POWER is infinitely more important and valuable than keeping one's word in a place where keeping one's word is considered and expected to be inviolate.

I've been to the former Soviet Union very recently. In a lot of areas they have freedoms we haven't seen around here for about 100 years. Originally posted by Timberwolf:

Westbrook if that's the case it's because they're starting from scratch thanks to Reagan.

Venus, the liberals have turned the once stately Senate into a three ring trashy circus. Garbage in, garbage out.
