The House has just approved the War resolution 296-133 (pretty overwhelming if you ask me)
The Seante is next - then Saddam.

A handful of House 'pubs voted nay.

I think I heard on Fox one of the peace-nick "Republicans" was . . .
Ron Paul.
Can anyone confirm?

Not off hand, but I can look it up easily enough. I presume Ron Paul was one of them. images/icons/frown.gif

The roll call vote registry page for the House on the Thomas site must be overloaded with queries right now because the page is not available, although the other site pages I tried (to test whether the whole site was having trouble) are fine. Guess everybody wants to know the vote, and how their guy voted. Since most 'pubs voted aye, and their constituents know that already, the site must be infested with 'rats at the moment checking on their rep's vote. images/icons/grin.gif

Venus Ron Paul is a pacifist. Dems are only voting no because the President is a Republican. They voted yes on the '98 resolution when Clinton was Prez.
Venus

WL, I know that. Paul's vote is on principle, the 'rats's votes are strictly political. I disagree with Paul this time, but I still agree with him almost all the time. He's still 'the man'. Besides, his vote wasn't critical in this matter, so why not vote his conscience?
The_RANDy_Corporation

Funny how on the same vote you consider Dr. Paul, the pacifist flight surgeon, to be voting his conscience and yet the 'rats voting the same way are political hacks.
Let the rationalization begin!

Randy, all 'rats are political hacks. Therefore, none of their votes are based on conscience. Besides, few of them have a conscience. images/icons/tongue.gif

Expect this to pass the Senate, the Iraqi-loving commies don't want to doom themselves to defeat, so they will say that they support this.

To answer the burning question of which 'pubs voted nay, here's the list:
John Duncan (TN)
John Hostettler (IN)
Amo Houghton (NY)
Jim Leach (IA)
Connie Morella (MD)
Ron Paul (TX)

Ron Paul is a disappointment. Perhaps he'll change his vote after the destruction is unleashed from these Arab maniacs.

I was surprised to see Duncan's and Leach's names on the list. Morella's is no big surprise, of course, nor is Houghton's. I don't know much about Hostettler. I barely know who he is. Maybe 2A has some insight into why he voted nay.

I heard Ron Paul on Sean Hannity's radio show today and he's anything BUT a disappointment in this matter!!
He was NOT voting against military action. He was voting against abdication of the Congress' responsibility to DECLARE WAR! This resolution abdicates that responsibility to the President and possibly to the ****ing UN!!!! He said that the resolution was so worded so that if the war effort tanked EVERYONE that voted for it could say, "it was the President's war...he declared and fought this war, we didn't".
SOBs, everyone one of them that voted FOR this sickening, cowardly resolution!!!! graemlins/icon125.gif

I agree with you there TimberWolf. I think Congress should have laughed this right out the door. How can GB even propose that we should give him, one guy, that kind of power? It's mind boggling that every American is not filling their reps mailbox. We are truly turning into a sick society. I agree Sadaam is a sick individual, but pre-emptive strikes? The guy is actually becoming quite frightening. I'm just glad Al Gore was running or GW may have made me vote Dem. Doesn't matter though, he didn't get my vote either. If you ask me, there's just something fishy about the guy. Besides from being a Politician.

You are quite right we should let Saddam get his nuclear weapons first then confront him - that way we wait until things get really bad before we send our troops into action.

atsmatta, it's not pre-emptive when the war never ended and Saddam is firing at our planes and violating his own agreement to disarm. Just because Bill Clinton didn't have the balls to enforce the laws is no reason to not enforce them now. Someone has to do it sooner or later. And W says he's not going to leave this mess to another administration.

He did not just get WMD but has been actively buidling up his arsenal over time. The reason why he should be attacked is precisely because he is more of a threat now than 10 years ago. He will not stop until we kill him.

Qoute: " I see that the Bush loving sycophants are in full war fever pitch. It’s just amazing to watch Congress wipe their collective ass’s with the Constitution and to watch you people line up to hand it to them. I guess this is about the surest way to tell the deference between those of you who are Republicans claiming to be Conservatives and Real Conservatives".
Amen Amen Amen. It is horrible to see a country desire war as much as the usa. However, it is worse to see the constitution shredded. It is over.
The same thing was done when Hiter convinced the publick to support the Blitzkrieg.
Shame on you, who desire this fatal act, and destroy the constitution.
I never thought I'd see the day....the constitution swapped for politics. Sen Byrd, who knows more about the constitution than most anyone told it like it is.
Disclaimer: Lack of capital letters in the word "constitution" is per G.W. Bush's proclamation. As Sen Byrd pointed out. In the order giving one man the power to declare war, the word "constitution" is mentioned only once, and is NOT capitalized.
All you "good conservatives have just sold this great nation down the river.

...and just WHY was that?? Because he was kowtowing to the globalists at the UN. This war is still in progress because the damned UN was involved in the first place. To hell with the UN. The UN was not attacked this time nor was Kuwait...WE were. And if it means that we have to go it alone, so be it...but it has to be done legally. That means that Congress must be the entity that declares war. That's how it works...the President asks them to do it and they approve or disaprove.
Congress is doing nothing more than covering is ample ass by deferring to the President and it makes me sick to my stomach that we have so many friggin' cowards running the country. All they care about is if they can get re-elected. Pisses me RIGHT off!!!

I was in the 101st during Desert Storm and just before the cease fire was called, we had plans to enter Baghdad. It involved a parachute drop by the 82nd and the entire 101st Air Assaulting right into downtown..with heavy armor/mech coming in.
Ig Bush Sr, wanted to do it, we could have.
