Awesome, Beowulf!! You are blessed!

I found my bio-mom (and 1/2 sister), but unfortunately it was not a pleasant experience. I want to find my bio-dad, but as he was NOT listed on my ACTUAL birth certificate, and she is really the only one who knows who it is, I'm afraid I never will. Ours was not a happy reunion. She said very mean things to me, and even said the day I was born, was the day I died (to her). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sad.gif

But, I'm still grateful she allowed me life, even if she wants to deny giving it to me.

I'm in college to learn a skill so i can get a decent job.

Not very easy to get a job around here unless you have 6 months to several years worth of experience allready.

this is an economically depressed region.

and FYI I am not a 'he' i am a she.

and I am hearing impaired and am on SSI, thats one of the reasons why I want to gain a skill so I can get a job.

You cant live on the SSI stipend

I think that you're both living on the wrong side of the Cascades (I know Rink is, rome where are you at?). My wife is leaving her job at the end of the month and has had 8 job offers already. The work's out there, it's just a matter of having the work ethic and skills to put yourself in demand. The company I work for is screaming for hard-working entry-level people (as well as skilled).

21stcenturyrome

personally I cant even GET a job because of the fact that I have no skill to date and not much in lieu of job experience either.

and I live in the Columbia River Gorge. smack dab into the heart of logging country.

And there is no opportunity in this two-bit town i live in currently. that is why I turn to college as the best option i have to gaingin employment.

NT, I gotta tell you, from your avatar you are the spitting-image of my Dad's (back of his head). I am SO not kidding -- when I first saw your avatar, my heart skipped a beat, it is chilling how much in appearance that picture is with my Dad. September 10th will be 5 years since he passed away, and I miss him just awfully. But you know, every time I see your avatar I remember how much he enjoyed politics, the computer, and this country, and it makes me smile and remember all the good times. For that, I am truly grateful.

While our wives were bowling in the state tournament this past spring we husbands were all sitting in a row watching. We all have similar bald spots on the back of our heads. Our then 17-month-old grandson walked up behind one of the other men and was about to tap him on the shoulder thinking it was me when he looked over and saw me seated a few feet away.

BTW, when we were on a National Review cruise in November 2002, a man came up to me in the buffet dining area and asked me if I was Dick Cheney. I insisted that I was not, but he was not at all convinced. I've had at least 7 or 8 others, including our son's mother-in-law, who have told me that I look like Dick Cheney. At dinner that evening, Rich Lowry and Jay Nordlinger ate dinner at our table. I told them about that man thinking that I was Dick Cheney. They both agreed that I did look like Cheney. After that when I saw either Rich or Jay they greeted me with "Good Night, Mr. Vice President" or "Good Morning, Mr. Vice President" as the case may be. Then we would both laugh. It was great fun.

I don't often check beyond the political thread so was surprised to find this thread. They already have my natal record, but for the curious I'm a Taurus, 24 April 1928. Married on 23 February 1958. Born in the hills of Kentucky, unashamedly Irish. After all, there are only 2 nationalities..... the Irish and those that wish they were! :D

I be Irish too . . . on me Mum's side (biological) and on me other Mum's side (adopted). My (adopted) mom's maiden name was Truluck -- can't get much more Irish than that, eh? I'd say I'd totally agree with yer sentiment above, me friend! LOL

08/01/63. Not old enough to remember JFK.
My grandmother on my father's side- her birthday is 08/02/04. She'll be 102 this year. We always share birthdays.
She got married to my grandfather late in life, the year after the Hindenburg went down at Lakehurst. My grandfather arrived in America via Ellis Island, at age 15, the year before the Titanic went down.

Let's see Kennedy was shot on this day, obv. different year. Born on Thanksgving and my birthday falls on Thanksgiving every 6 years. What's more is that my brother was born on 11/26 on Thanksgiving as well and my sister was born on 10/31 Halloween day. I always told her she was the devil child and I was to be recieved with thanks. :)

True Grace, let me assure you, grandkids are easier than kids. More fun, too.

For one thing, you'll be perfectly aware of all of the mistakes you made the first time around, and won't be apt to make them the second time.

You'll find that you have more time for grandkids than you ever had with your kids.

You'll find that the little hand prints on the door facings, and grape jelly on the kitchen floor isn't half as irritating as when you were following your kids around with a wet rag.

There is also the great joy you experience when you hear the child you raised, echoing words you spoke thirty years ago to his own children.
