What would be realistic survival preparations for US citizens? Any pertinant recommendations?

Always keep fresh water, non-perishable food, a can opener, bottle opener, flash lights, candles, batteries, matches, battery operated radio and weapons cleaned and loaded and first aid kit.

If possible, also make sure you keep your valuables (money, personal documents) safe and at hand (this was one of the things hubby told me when he worked with the Coast Guard in CA and preapred for earthquakes)

Forget this lone wolf stuff. You're dead meat, easy pickings. What we really need is a commitment from local communities to be able to provision and guard themselves at a moment's notice. Oh, wait! That's called a militia and, as we all know, it's evil, right? And, who needs a militia in this day and age of modern technology, right?

You might chuckle, but toilet paper. Toothpaste. Deodorant. Small comforts like these help preserve morale and sanity. If you have a "ready Bag" or pack, the extra weight & space consumed will be worth it in a long term crisis like this is bound to be.
Dont forget a good knife.

Toliet paper is a real good thing.
Fill up your car... get cash... stock up on can goods... diapers, formula, etc. (In case my grandbabies need them!)
Have a "planned evacuation" with a site to meet family. Remember, communication lines may well be down. Don't wait and get caught in traffic jams ... or worse. Better safe than sorry. Get away, to a safe place, early.

Hope this isn't needed. But, if it is here is info about terrorist preparation [hold down the laughing!]:

Clothes, a S&W .38 (bite me, its still a good gun and I got it used), some hydrashock and FMJ in the bag with it. Couple of sodas and some light food.
Thats my bug out setup right now. If all hell breaks loose I just want to be able to get out of town.

And we need to rein in the liberals who want to render us unable to defend ourselves.
