To all Texans Supporting the 2nd Amendment
This is to inform all Texans who believe in the right to maintain arms for self-defense and the public good, of 2nd Amendment Day in Austin. For 2001 it will be Tuesday 13 March. This will be a day for all Texans to celebrate the sacred 2nd Amendment and share their feelings with their
legislators in Austin. Many leading Texas Legislators and Gun Owner's Rights people from across the State and Nation have promised to come and help.
Most of our legislators hear very little from their constituents unless it's a request for help on some specific issue. They do not get to visit on a "one-on-one" basis, in a setting where a clear meaningful discussion
can be held. All too often, after doing something we feel was wrong, they can only say "But we heard from no one on this issue! After checking our files and researching the issue, we voted this way because..." If only they had been visited by one of their neighbors from their home district!
Too many times they have no way of connecting a face with a name. Remember, these are our neighbors. They live where we do, but they do not know the most important person in their constituency, YOU, the voter, who helped elect them, so they could speak for YOU in the legislature. If you do not let them know what you want them to say, there are plenty of professional lobbyists who certainly will. Too often, though, they will not get the message you want them to have. This will be a day for you to take the time to visit them in their Austin office, in the Capitol, and face to face, let them get to know you and what you believe.
There are a few simple preliminary requirements to be met for a successful visit. First you must contact your Representative and Senator by phone, fax or e-mail and request a few minutes to meet with them on 13 March. This is
a necessary courtesy item; let them know you will be there and let them set the time. If you've not been to the Capitol before, there is a lot to see and do. If you have, you probably have friends to go and see as well as your
respective lawmakers. Call on as many of them as you know, or would like to! Come early and plan to spend the day with us.
A citizen taking the time to visit their elected representatives is a very important occasion to these people. If someone has the desire to make themselves heard by taking a precious day of vacation, loss of a days work
and make the long trip to Austin, it is obvious that this is an issue which could make reelection difficult or easy. What is necessary is to garner as much participation as possible. If a little is good, a lot is wonderful!
Tell your friends and neighbors about this. Two or three of you get in a pickup and make the trip. The results will be far more than the small cost of the going. Meet all of the people you've heard of in the fight to keep our freedoms. Leaders and representatives will be there from TSRA, Gun Owners Alliance (GOA-Texas), ABATE, Houston Gun Collectors Assoc., Greater Texas Sportsman's Coalition and others who do this on a daily basis. Let them know you care and give them all a boost by being there. We are working to put a reception together where all can meet, visit, teach and learn. Some of these people will be traveling great distances and at great expense. This
is not the usual "pass the loot" letter you ordinarily get. Save your cash for the trip. If you have a couple bucks left, there will be opportunity to spread it where it will do the most good. It is most important that YOU BE
THERE!! Guides will be at the Capitol to help those there for the first time and ease the frustration of finding legislators and aides in the catacombs and warrens of our Capitol Building. Meet there for a great day and lots of fun and accomplishment. Only you can do this, so it is you who must make the trip and help. 186 men went to San Antonio and gave their lives so we could have the right to do this. You won't have to put your life on the line if you do this now.
I remain your most obedient servant,
BJ Waugh
