THE world's first resort for gun lovers has hit a bull's eye. The most expensive membership, at $350,000 (£246,000), including an acre plot for a family home and a free Uzi sub-machinegun, is almost sold out.
Front Sight, a 500-acre complex in the Nevada desert 50 miles from Las Vegas, has an armoury, helicopter pad, pro shop, five-storey tower and a dozen ranges. It offers advanced weapons training and a protected enclave where families can live in "ultimate safety" in a country beset with gun crime. Opponents have called the project "Disneyland for gun lovers".

But its developer, Dr Ignatius Piazza, a former chiropractor, believes that it will succeed where the National Rifle Association has failed by making weapons acceptable to all Americans. He said: "Guns have a bad reputation. Within 20 years Front Sight will have changed that. We are part of the solution to violence."

He plans to train Americans to kill swiftly anyone who threatens their lives. "Trying to attack anyone living at Front Sight is a death wish. Even the most bleeding heart liberal whose wife was raped and murdered would want to do something. Here we teach them how."

Dr Piazza developed the concept of Front Sight after his "American Dream" neighbourhood was riddled with bullets in a drive-by shooting. He said: "I owned firearms but I was never taught to defend my life." He believes that most of America's 50 million gun owners are equally unskilled.

Residents of Front Sight are not only taught how to "put two clean shots into the thoracic cavity of your assailant" but also how to justify the killing when they come to court.
