Just one month after the U.N. and EU launched a furious campaign against Israel's security fence, culminating in the International Court of Justice ruling that the fence is illegal, the EU announced it's planning to build a separation fence of its own, and invited Israel to participate in the construction.
The fence is being built to separate recently added EU members Poland and Hungary from their new neighbors – Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. The EU said the fence is necessary to "prevent the free movement of migrants seeking to enter" EU territory.
Israeli companies that specialize in the construction of fences and security systems will participate in tenders to build hundreds of miles of fences along the EU's new eastern border.
"It's incredible the EU has no problem building a fence just to keep illegal immigrants out, but when the Jewish State builds a security fence as a last resort for the purpose of keeping terrorists out and saving Israeli lives, we are blasted by them and the U.N.," a spokesman for Ariel Sharon told WorldNetDaily. "Makes you think, doesn't it?"

"Makes you think, doesn't it?"
Obviously not!
Poland are entitled to build walls in Poland. They are not planning on building walls in illegally occupied territories, that annexes more territory, illegally.
excuse me but who waged war more than once against Israel and lost?
Israel against the arabs??? or was it arabs against Israel?

Every once in a while would you please at least make an attempt at making an intelligent statement. Israel is there legally and legally they can build a fence in their own country whenever they want to.

"You actually believe that Israel was formed illegally??"
No, not at all. I'm not sure if you understand the difference between Israel and the Occupied Territories. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
who says its 'occupied'???
"who says its [sic] 'occupied'???
The US Government, the Israeli Supreme Court and the UN as just a selection.
I'll quote from the US State Department
"West Bank and Gaza Strip are Israeli-occupied with current status subject to the Israeli-Palestinian Interim Agreement - permanent status to be determined through further negotiation"
Palestine never EXISTED before the formation of the state of Israel.
in fact the word 'Palestinia' came from the Romans who renamed the land After the destruction of the 2nd Temple
can you understand this? or are you dense as a rock?
"Palestine never EXISTED before the formation of the state of Israel."
I assume you refer to the foundation of the Israeli State in 1948
I don't really like sarcasm in debates, but you write the name Palestine came from the Romans. You are aware that the Roman Empire existed around 2000 years ago? The Romans renamed the area Palestine in 135AD (nearly 1900 years ago), although the name Palestine (and similar terms) is older.
Anyway, as usual, this topic begins to wander.
yea and israel existed LONG before the Romans crawled out of the Tiber river and started conquering

A hundred years ago the area of israel was populated by an arab majority. Through some tomfoolery during and after WWI the british effectively claimed the land as their property and helped to initiate the zionist project to turn it into a jewish homeland.
As the jewish proportion of the population was artificially increased there was naturally conflict between the arab and jewish populations. Same thing happened with the native American indians if you remember.
The British proposed setting up two states to solve the mess. The Jews wanted this but the arabs wanted one state with no more immigration.
Noone got what they wanted diplomatically so both sides resorted to violence, and its been violence ever since.
Ultimately the situation is neither the Israeli or palestinians fault. The original blame lies with people who lived in another time - The British who had no right to nation build on someone elses land.
As for the wall I don't know much about the land right issue, but it is clear to me that the area of land that the palestinian people are on does not belong to israel. Otherwise there would be no distinction and the palestinians would pay tax to israel. I agree there is no palestinian state, but there is an area in which palestinians live, and it ain't israel. Their houses for example do not belong to Israel. So it stands to reason that there is a line dividing israel and palestine, even if one is a state and the other is not. The point is that the wall goes illegally over the palestinian side of the line.
Without drawing too many parallels to native americans, many of them live in reservations, but do those reservations represent independant states? If not then would it be legal for the US government to build a huge wall through an indian reservation? I dunno, serious question.

So the Israeli's build a large wall across land of disupted ownership that greatly disrupts the lives of many people who are cut off from jobs, schools, etc and the EU plans to build a fence along recognised and well established borders that won't greatly effect the lives of many people and somehow the this makes the EU anti-Israeli hypocrites?
Please note I'm not saying whether or not Israel should be putting up their wall, I'm saying that the border fence the EU is putting up and the wall the Israeli's are planning to put up are similar enough to justify attacking the EU for condemning Israel.

On that we agree!!
I'll go a step farther. I feel the same if they show BLATANT disregard for unarmed innocent people, whether killing or hiding amongst unarmed innocent people.
