 A month ago, when I got an adware attack, several icons were added go my desktop. They were all adware trash, so I deleted all of them. There is one, however, that keeps coming back. It's entitled "NEW Hot Deals". I put it in the recycle bin, & empty the bin, but within minutes, that icon is back on my desktop. I've tried to search for the program, but I can't find it. How do I get rid of this pesky icon?

I assume you have used Spy bot and Adware to remove the spyware.
I recommend this also.

I think that your problem has something to do with MS Messenger being enabled. If you are using XP do a Ctrl-Alt-Del and see if that process is running.
Go to the Control Panel, Administrative Services, Processes, and look for Messenger. Disable it by right clicking, properties then select disable.
You may have to reboot.
This should get rid of the resident popups. If not, then it's regedit time.

Hi
Normally just a lurker here, that adware imbeds itself into your programs in a way that is extremely hard to locate and it has its own list of files so it kind of gets all over the place. I ended up just doing a full system restore because when I started to remove bits of it, other things on my computer got disabled and before I knew it I was in a serious pickle.
If you can remember the exact name of what you put on the computer then google it for manual uninstall directions. I have found that using a spy ware removal program was just more garbage on my computer that I did not want.
Do you remember the exact name?
if possible find the path-name to that piece of spyware, (do search on your comps harddrive with its name, that might help).

The free version of Pest Patrol will locate the spyware/adware. It will tell you where it is in your registry and you can remove it manually from there.
WARNING: This can be extremely tedious. I once spent an entire weekend removing adware crap. It was very aggressive. It kept popping up no matter what I tried. I got it out, but damn, it took forever. I used to go into the registry and remove 'em surgically, but some of those damn things are just too much.
One day I got another one of those stupid adware/spyware things and it was a monster. It would have taken a week to get it out. So I gave in and purchased Pest Patrol outright.
One of the best products I've ever purchased.
It works like a charm.
