:computer2 Help, please!

My computer started acting funny ... programs I used to be able to use (Print Artist, Crosswords Plus, etc.) started giving me the following message:

16 Bit Windows Subsystem
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose close to terminate the application.

Then, today, I was working on graphics project, and a message popped up saying my computer might be infected with the following:

Win32SynAdAtrojan

I have both EZ Armor Antivirus (just downloaded it about a week ago!), and ZoneLabs Firewall. I am currently running the antivirus scan thing but it is saying 0 infections.

Anybody have any suggestions as to what to do next? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

I looked up that virus definition and drew a blank.

The reason why your anti-virus scans are turning up zip is because I think this problem has hidden itself in your DOS part of your machine.

I am no expert but thats my best guess over why your virus scanners isnt picking anything up

One suggestion, and that is to reboot your pc, into 'safe mode' then run the anti-virus scans again, that helps in getting some things that may be running in regular mode to stop so they can be scanned.

Ok this is what I dug up, read them all before doing anything:

Get error message when trying program installation (http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/win2000/t1096081592)

and

Subject: 16-Bit Dos system error (http://computing.net/windows2000/wwwboard/forum/59895.html)

Then this:

How do I recover Windows 2000? (http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBG/TIP3200/rh3200.htm)
