No turkey for me this Thanksgiving. The Warlord is working on a seismic boat off the Egyptian shore in the Med sea. Oh well, me and the doggies might have a turkey tv dinner lol. I'll save my 20 pound turkey for Christmas. But Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! We have so much to be thankful for this year. Just imagine if Kerry had won how sad we would all be. Thank you Jesus.

Father, thank you for this glorious day and all that You have given us. Please forgive us where we have failed You. We ask You to watch us and guide all that we do. Please watch over all our friends and family as they make their journeys throughout our bountiful land. We ask a special prayer to be with our brave Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines who cannot share this wonderful time with their families while they are in defense of our nation. All these things we ask in Jesus' precious name. Amen.

Our family is celebrating Thanksgiving today due to various commitments to employers tomorrow. We all share our blessings with all of my friends at FC.

Happy Thanksgiving all, and please take a moment today or tomorrow to take the time to offer up prayers for those who can't be with us.

Why do we have Thanksgiving? For the turkey industry? Football? To officially thank the Indians? No. Following is the wording from President Washington's proclamation of a national day of Thanksgiving and prayer. Teach it to your children. The publick schools won't.

<TABLE height="100%" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=4 width="100%" align=center border=0><TBODY><TR><TD align=left>General Thanksgiving

By the PRESIDENT of the United States Of America
A PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favour; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me "to recommend to the people of the United States a DAY OF PUBLICK THANKSGIVING and PRAYER, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:"

NOW THEREFORE, I do recommend and assign THURSDAY, the TWENTY-SIXTH DAY of NOVEMBER next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed;-- for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish Constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted;-- for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge;-- and, in general, for all the great and various favours which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also, that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions;-- to enable us all, whether in publick or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wife, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shewn kindness unto us); and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

GIVEN under my hand, at the city of New-York, the third day of October, in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and eighty-nine.

Psalms, psalm 47

1: O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph.
2: For the LORD most high is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth.
3: He shall subdue the people under us, and the nations under our feet.
4: He shall choose our inheritance for us, the excellency of Jacob whom he loved. Selah.
5: God is gone up with a shout, the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
6: Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing praises.
7: For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.
8: God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness.
9: The princes of the people are gathered together, even the people of the God of Abraham: for the shields of the earth belong unto God: he is greatly exalted.

Happy Thanksgiving you all! Couldn't post earlier.
I saw the wonderful parade on TV today when I got home from work.
They didnt show it all but the scenes they showed gave me a good
impression of what it must have been like. Wonderful! Hope you all
enjoyed your Thanksgiving dinner!

I will be creating my turkey slaughter short story soon. I will let you all know when it is done. Its brutal, brief and ballsy. At least in the way my brain wants it to go down. We'll see if it lengthens any when I put it to scratch.

:moo: I don't think "terrible" means "bad" in this context. I think it means that He's a terror to His enemies.

Hey, Kate! Where've you been?

Had a lot of problems with our work-network because of a virus and the computers were going slow so I had to work longer than usual.

The problem is still not solved. :(

So basically when I came home I went straight to bed because I was tired.

2: For the LORD most high is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth.

Is that really what it says?Yep.

3372. yare', yaw-ray'; a prim. root; to fear; mor. to revere; caus. to frighten:--affright, be (make) afraid, dread (-ful), (put in) fear (-ful, -fully, -ing). (be had in) reverence (-end), X see, terrible (act, -ness, thing).

Main Entry: ter·ri·ble
Pronunciation: 'ter-&-b&l
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English, from Middle French, from Latin terribilis, from terrEre to frighten -- more at TERROR
1 a : exciting extreme alarm or intense fear : TERRIFYING
b : formidable in nature : AWESOME < a terrible responsibility >
c : DIFFICULT < in a terrible bind >

We tend to think of the word in these terms:

2 : EXTREME, GREAT < a terrible disappointment >
3 : extremely bad: as a : strongly repulsive : OBNOXIOUS < a terrible smell >
b : notably unattractive or objectionable
c : of very poor quality < a terrible movie >

Its original meaning was not "bad".

From Matthew Henry's commentary:

Verses 1-4. The God with whom we have to do, is a God of awful majesty. The universal and absolute sovereignty of a holy God would be too terrible for us even to think of, were it not exercised by his Son from a mercy-seat; but now it is only terrible to the workers of iniquity. While his people express confidence and joy, and animate each other in serving him, let sinners submit to his authority, and accept his salvation. Jesus Christ shall subdue the Gentiles; he shall bring them as sheep into the fold, not for slaughter, but for preservation. He shall subdue their affections, and make them a willing people in the day of his power. Also it speaks of his giving them rest and settlement. Apply this spiritually; the Lord himself has undertaken to be the inheritance of his people. It shows the faith and submission of the saints. This is the language of every gracious soul, The Lord shall choose my inheritance for me; he knows what is good for me better than I do.
