I watched this special yesterday and boy did it bring up some great memories! Along this line I thought I would throw out a couple of questions to spur your own memories:

3) Do you prefer board games, card games, or some other type of game?

4) As an adult, what games do you like to play now?

5) What game brings back your fondest memory?

6) What would you say is your all-time favorite game?

(And I KNOW I don't have to write this, but let's keep this one clean, shall we? LOL)

1) What was your favorite childhood "indoor" game?

Skating in the basement. We cleared everything off to the side and raced round and round, throwing elbows and tripping each other. A good blood sport.

Rock fights. Me'n my brother were baseball pitchers and could actually hit what we threw at. After a few rock fights the other kids didn't wanna play anymore. We never did figure out why.

3) Do you prefer board games, card games, or some other type of game?

None of the above. I like foosball, but mostly I like to watch college roundball.

4) As an adult, what games do you like to play now?

I like playing soccer with high school kids, guys and girls together. They treat me as a girl and go easy on me, letting me pretend to contribute. When they dogpile I jump on top and then they all get up and jump on me.

5) What game brings back your fondest memory?

Throwing spark plugs at loose dogs in the neighborhood.

6) What would you say is your all-time favorite game?

2001 World Series. :)

Geez, I must be like the oldest person here. Some of these games others are mentioning didn't come out until after I was married! Anyway, here are a few of my old favorites, let me know if anyone out there remembers any of them.

http://i8.ebayimg.com/01/i/04/09/e2/f1_1_b.JPG

You never heard the end of it if you ended up with Poindexter!!

http://i21.ebayimg.com/03/i/04/08/45/ea_2.JPG

You weren't supposed to want to get the rakish looking guy who had stubble on his chin, but he was hot!!

http://i16.ebayimg.com/01/i/04/09/87/a8_2.JPG

I learned alot about great authors from playing this.

http://i2.ebayimg.com/02/i/04/0c/35/fe_2.JPG

And this one scared the ever lovin crap out of me!

Outside we would play "Red Rover, Red Rover", Simon Says, "Red Light, Green Light", Freeze Tag, and Ollie Ollie Over which got us into frequent trouble because it involved throwing a super bowl over the roof to the team waiting on the other side of the house. Broken windows really suck, especially when Dad's home!

This was one of my favorite games in the 80's. Anyone remember this??

OH MY GOSH, LadyHawk, are you KIDDING???!!!

That was/is my ALL TIME favorite game EVER! Is that YOUR game in the pic? Do you still have it? Can you still play it? Mine is broken, and I have been trying and trying to find a new tower for mine. I think the electronics inside has gone haywire, no matter what I do (new batteries) it STILL goes wacko when I push a button.

I KNEW we were meant to be friends, I just KNEW it!

Homes, you are right, we have absolutely too much in common! I got the pic off of Ebay where they have many of them for sale. They are going for a pretty penny though. I offered $100 to a guy who has one up for around $50 if he would sell it to me right now. I think you'd probably have to go about $150 to get one. I sure wish I had my old one. I loaned it to someone and never got it back. That was/is an awesome game, maybe if enough people asked, they would bring it back!

Now comes the good stuff. First, create a folder on the desktop, named Dark Tower or whatever.

Second, save the webpage to that folder.

Third, right click on <a href="http://www.aanimation.com/Dark_Tower/tower.swf">this link</a>, select "Save target as" (for IE and Opera) and save it to the folder. This downloads the Flash file. If you do it after you've already fetched the page, it may just copy the already-downloaded file to the folder, but in any case you'll have a permanent copy of it.

After that, open the folder, double-click on the HTML file, and you'll be ready to go instantly, even offline.

The folder can be stored anywhere if you like a clean desktop. In that case, open the folder, right-click the HTML file, click "Send to", and then "Desktop (create shortcut)", if that option exists. If not, then select "Create shortcut" from the right-click menu, and then drag the created shortcut to the desktop.

For ultimate ease, you can drag the shortcut to the "Quick Launch" area of the taskbar for one-click gaming.

Now comes the good stuff. First, create a folder on the desktop, named Dark Tower or whatever.

Done.

Second, save the webpage to that folder.

How? Being as how I am on AOL, I did drag the little heart icon (the one I use to store things in my favorites) over to the folder on my desktop. When I click the folder, inside is Dark Tower Flash Game - Version 2 Internet Shortcut (that's what it says next to a little AOL icon). Does that mean I saved the webpage to the folder like you said?

Third, right click on this link (http://www.aanimation.com/Dark_Tower/tower.swf), select "Save target as" (for IE and Opera) and save it to the folder. This downloads the Flash file. If you do it after you've already fetched the page, it may just copy the already-downloaded file to the folder, but in any case you'll have a permanent copy of it.

I must be doing something wrong. When I right click the link above, I cannot click the "Save Target As" as it does not show up as a clickable option.

Let's do it the easy way. Attached to this post are two TXT files. Tower.txt is just a renamed version of the web page. Save it and rename it to Tower.htm, ignoring Windows' gloomy warning. It goes in the folder.

The second file is SWF.txt, which is nothing but the link to the Flash file. Rename it to SWF.htm, open Opera, drag the file to a blank page, and the clickable link will be there. It should work properly in Opera.

Good luck!

Doc,

I guess I just ain't that smart. I never could get it to work. I think you're wasting your time on a certified computer dummy (me :smirky: ). Well, at least I know I can go to the site online and play without too much trouble. Guess I must have some blonde in my genes, LOL.

Thanks for the help anyway. You are one of a kind, Doc. I really appreciate all you do to help us out around here -- and especially me, with computer issues.

Blessings,
Hms

1) What was your favorite childhoold "indoor" game?

Drums, Guitars, Sport video games

2) What was your favorite childhood "outdoor" game?

Lawn Darts, Slip-n-slide, smear the queer (go figure none are around these days)

3) Do you prefer board games, card games, or some other type of game?

HOLD'EM!!!

4) As an adult, what games do you like to play now?

I play that game where I try to get intimate with my wife only to be stopped by the kids, bills need to be paid, toilet backing up, headache, too tired, gotta get up early etc. etc. etc......

5) What game brings back your fondest memory?

Lawn darts.... those things could really fly, then the combo lawn dart, slip-n-slide game. The slider would take off to slide and the dart man would have to try and time the throw to stick the lawn dart in the dudes back.

6) What would you say is your all-time favorite game?

Smear the Queer

Tower.txt is the HTML file renamed so that I could attach it to the post. Rename it to Tower.htm to use it.

SWF.txt is another HTML file renamed for the same reason. Its only purpose is to provide a clickable link for downloading the game file. Rename it to SWF.htm to fetch the game file.

The downloaded SWF file and Tower.htm must be in the same folder to play the game. SWF.htm can be deleted once the game file is downloaded.

Doc, what do you mean by "drag the folder to a blank page? Also, I don't have Opera, I can use IE or AOL.

DoctorDoom
05-13-2005, 10:06 PM
It was "drag the file to a blank page". Homes was apparently having problems with AOHell's browser, but she had Opera installed for banking, which is why I suggested using it to get around AOL's lousy browser.

If you're on AOL, you may have the same problem, but IE will work as well as Opera.

1. Have SWF.htm on the desktop
2. Open IE to a blank page, or if it defaults to a web page, type about:blank into the address bar, which will give a blank page in IE.
3. "Window" IE (center button in the upper right corner) and move the window until you can see the SWF.htm file on the desktop
4. Click on SWF.htm, drag it anywhere in the blank IE page, and release the button. This will open the file and you should see this (these are not links - they just look like it):

Game file download

Right-click the link and select "Save target as".

Right-click Game file download in the IE page, select "Save target as", and tell it where to save it. In the folder with Tower.htm is the ideal place. This downloads tower.swf. Once it's done, and the .htm and .swf files are together, double-clicking Tower.htm starts the game.

Enjoy!
