Is anyone here aware of the history of American Chestnuts? I now have 65 trees planted from blight resistant stock from The American Chestnut Growers Assoc. Proof that conservatism and environmentalism are not mutually exclusive. Just the whacko type

Pictures this spring. (if I can figure out how)

Perhaps these links may help you on the history of the American Chestnut tree:

American Chestnut Foundation (http://www.acf.org/)

The American Chestnut Tree (http://www.chattoogariver.com/Articles/2002W/chestnut.htm)

The American Chestnut Story, its history (http://lamar.colostate.edu/~samcox/chestnut.htm)

An American Chestnut Comeback (http://forestry.about.com/cs/treeid/a/achestnut.htm)

The name of the American Chestnut tree is this (Castanea dentate)

Hope this helps ya.

Thanks for the interest Rink. I am a tree nut and it pains me to see people walk past something as awsome as a Ginko or a Bald Cypruss and not know they are next to living fossils the dinosours munched on while hiding from preditors.

Kewl well I'm a plant nut myself, I have a Gingko tree in my back yard and Think they are the Kewlest trees around, knowing they are one of the oldest living fossils in the world.

Wish towns would choose to plant Gingko trees instead of maple cuz Gingko trees grow slower and far as I'm concerned they're more interesting trees than maples are.

Plus they do clean up the air where planted, they're pollution cleaner-uppers :)

Thanks for the links, Rink... We need to plant some trees around our yard - We built our house in a hayfield... A chestnut might be just the thing...
