I'm asking prayers today for the family of my downstairs neighbors this morning. A mass heart attack suddenly took a grandfather, father, very good friend to all and a man of faith. His name, Alexander Kobashar, a retired Orthodox Priest.
It took us all by surprise as he was active in the community and walked 2 miles/day to stay healthy. I can't say enough nice things about him. He took in 3 grandchildren to raise himself as the fathers were no longer around, one of which, his own son, died several years ago. The other two, who knows!
Anyway, his daughter is on her way home from Iraq right now courtesy of the Red Cross.
He also befriended many within my complex and he always made it a point to joke and pick on my son. He often told me in fits of laughter, "You know, Mathew is like I was when I was a kid. He reminds me of me."
He continued on with, "my teachers told me after I was ordained that they never imagined I would ever become a priest.
He was also very outspoken. For reasons mentioned above, he hated men who skipped out on parental responsibilities. We also bashed the welfare system together as we both despised people being lazy and getting a free handout.
It hurts this morning as I think about it and I will miss the man dearly. Once I find an obituary, I plan to post it. Thanks, All.
