I'm asking prayers today for the family of my downstairs neighbors this morning. A mass heart attack suddenly took a grandfather, father, very good friend to all and a man of faith. His name, Alexander Kobashar, a retired Orthodox Priest.

It took us all by surprise as he was active in the community and walked 2 miles/day to stay healthy. I can't say enough nice things about him. He took in 3 grandchildren to raise himself as the fathers were no longer around, one of which, his own son, died several years ago. The other two, who knows!
Anyway, his daughter is on her way home from Iraq right now courtesy of the Red Cross.

He also befriended many within my complex and he always made it a point to joke and pick on my son. He often told me in fits of laughter, "You know, Mathew is like I was when I was a kid. He reminds me of me."
He continued on with, "my teachers told me after I was ordained that they never imagined I would ever become a priest.

He was also very outspoken. For reasons mentioned above, he hated men who skipped out on parental responsibilities. We also bashed the welfare system together as we both despised people being lazy and getting a free handout.

It hurts this morning as I think about it and I will miss the man dearly. Once I find an obituary, I plan to post it. Thanks, All.

Father God,

We praise you Most High, for Your Love, even as we grieve for one called Home. We ask you, Lord, for the wisdom, grace, and patience to relinquish our grief and embrace Your Joy as another of Your children has been reunited with You. We thank you for the time on earth, and for his influence on others as he would shine Your Light. Give all who knew and loved him peace, Jesus, and given them the Hope in You, that one day they too might be reunited in Glory. Thank you, Lord, we love You.
In Jesus Holy Precious Name,
Amen

That was a beautiful prayer Home. Beo, I'm so sorry you lost your friend. They are so hard to come by. Especially the gooduns like him. What will his grandsons do now? How old are they?

One grandson is grown but works at an Electronic Boutique. He never had a father figure besides his grandfather so he's quite lost right now. I told him that if he wants to talk to come see me. "I can't fill his shoes, but I can listen," I told him. He understands.

The other one is in High School I think but the same situation applies. The father isn't there. There is a granddaughter as well but she's in college not far away.

I'm more concerned for the wife. She's being strong through it all......somehow. She's not too good on her feet so I'm worried for her there. I have offered myself for rides and such as needed.

Alexander's daughter (that is Father Kobashar's first name) still hasn't arrived from Iraq yet.

Anyway, I'm not sure what anyone will do at this point as this happened so sudden. My son is still pretty upset and we've discussed it. I think he understands now. I'll let you know how it all turns out. I will be at the service this week.
