I was just thinking about it being that is MLK day and all. I have been called the "n" word and i have been called a cheap Jew...but has anyone else experienced racism?

yes, I have been racially discriminated against quite a few times. When I was in my teens I moved out to Arizona for a year to live with my mother. Because I have very dark skin and dark hair most folks thought I was either hispanic or Indian. My Best Friend (at the time) mother told him that she didnt want him to bring me to their house anymore because she didnt trust Mexicans. ONe of the girls I asked out told me she didnt date Indians.

Every Summer here in Texas I catch a lot of grief for being Mexican in sections of Dallas that they are not really welcome and I catch alot of grief from Mexicans for not speaking Spanish --- abondoning my heritage.

I usually laugh about the whole thing because I am majority White, some Indian blood from my mothers side. No Hispanic blood at all, I just tan real well.

I was also discriminated against when I was a child, but not for the color of my skin, but for being adopted. Because of my Gramma's money, I was made to attend an exclusive private school in Jax. My parents had always told me being adopted was something to be proud of because I was specially hand-picked to be their child. Well, being proud to me meant not being afraid to talk about it, so I did. In school I was called a "bastard" (sorry for the language), white trash, tag-a-long, etc. I even walked into a conversation my Aunt was having with one of my cousins as she was explaining how they had to treat me 'differently' because I wasn't really part of the family. It really hurt.

Ah thanks for reminding me. My sweetie's daughters are angry with him for divorcing their mom and are not speaking to him. The eldest (age 16) said if she saw me and the kids on the street she was gonna hit the gas and run down me and my bastard children with her car. I know she is angry but it hurt, because my sweetie is the second man I have ever been with and my kids have a dad I was married to for almost 10 years. Kids don't think this stuff up on their own all by themselves, Peach, I do feel it comes down from the parents first. I know the snooty parents of the kids I attended that private school with told their kids to stay away from me, like I had some disease or something because I was adopted. You know, I think I was the only adopted child attending (or at least if there were any others, they learned to keep their mouths shut after what happened to me!). This was 1963, a full 10 years before it would have been legal for my bio-Mom to suck me into a sink instead of give me up. Adoption was very rare, or at least in my neck of the woods it was. I think I was in high school before I ever knew another adopted person!

She gets a free pass to say anything she wants because she is "hurting" and in "pain" Well gosh, my own dad was blown up and mom went through 2 divorces. I learned to GET OVER IT and butt out and let them clean up their messes. I still chat with my stepdads, never took sides. back when i was in 5th grade , i got alotta bad treatment from a teacher because i was of mixed breed (mexican + german) , it put me thru a rebelious time of ditching class , and eventually i ended up in a private school for kids with learning problems .

since i dont look mexican at all (i look italian) , in highschool , some students would make anti-hispanic statements , i took offense to it , because it was insulting my background , i've also gotten a few anti-catholic statements from some idiots that didnt even know catholics are "christians" wtf ?

I don't know if this counts but I had to pay for a traffic accident because the person who rear ended my wife cried "discrimination" when fault was assessed to her. She was African American. I guess the city of Clarksville, Tennessee found it easier to assess me fault rather than settle a discrimination lawsuit.

In Columbus, Georgia, is a placed called Asian Restaurant. It's the only such place I've ever heard of, but then I've not seen even one place called Oriental Restaurant or Oriental Food or whatnot. In fact, I don't think I've ever heard of Oriental food.

Food is almost always referred to in terms of nationality, not geography. Chinese food, Mongolian bar-b-q, Japanese sushi, Turkish baclava, Kansas City steak.

Yeah, she was but she was more angry than anything because the driver got out and immediately called her an "ignorant white bitch." That lady really showed class eh?

We did have one other incident that I mentioned before in where she denied renting an African American man a video at the store she rented because his name wasn't on his girlfriend's account which BTW was company policy.
He proceeded to say, "You won't rent to me because I'm black," and began tearing up the store, instructing his young son to do the same and then went after my wife. Fortunately, she wasn't hurt but she was plenty scared. I came in to see her to find the police making reports. I stared down the man the whole time. I'm just sorry I never got ahold of him.
