'Dangerous' Global Warming Possible by 2026 - WWF
OSLO (Reuters) - World temperatures could surge in just two decades to a threshold likely to trigger dangerous disruptions to the earth's climate, the WWF environmental group said on Sunday.
It said the Arctic region was warming fastest, threatening the livelihoods of indigenous hunters by thawing the polar ice-cap and driving species like polar bears toward extinction by the end of the century.
"If nothing is done, the earth will have warmed by 2.0 Celsius (3.6 Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels by some time between 2026 and 2060," the WWF said in a report.
Few scientists have estimated such an early date for a 2.0C rise, seen by the WWF as a threshold that may spur "dangerous" warming, raising sea levels and causing more floods, storms or droughts and driving some species to extinction.
World temperatures have already risen by about 0.7C since 1750 with most scientists blaming a build-up of heat-trapping gases like carbon dioxide emitted by burning fossil fuels in factories, power plants and cars.
The European Union and many other environmental groups say that governments should cap emissions of greenhouse gases to try to prevent a 2.0C temperature rise. The United States has rejected binding caps under the U.N.'s Kyoto protocol.
At some point, some scientists fear that rising temperatures could cause a runaway warming, for instance by melting permafrost in Siberia that could in turn release deposits of heat-trapping methane to the atmosphere.
"Time is running out to avoid a two degree rise," said Mark New, a climate expert at England's Oxford University who made the 2026-60 projections in the report commissioned by the WWF.

Yeah, they could. Or they could DROP in just two decades to a threshhold likely to yada yada. Or they could stay the same.
Get back to us when you got something more definitive than "could," guys.

The weasel words scream "pure, shameless, politically motivated conjecture".
"If nothing is done, the earth will have warmed by 2.0 Celsius (3.6 Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels by some time between 2026 and 2060," the WWF said in a report. They've been higher than that many times in the past, and they'll be higher than that many times in the future. Man can no more affect the global climate than he can stop the tides. It is colossal arrogance to state otherwise.
BTW, these same WWF arseholes cosigned signed this document with numerous other ecowacko groups:
Nuclear power should not be used to address the threat of global warming because it would result in the production of additional radioactive waste; increased safety concerns; proliferation of nuclear power technology, and thereby, weapons proliferation. Nuclear power is neither clean enough, cost-effective enough, nor sustainable enough to be included in the CDM. Additionally, the US would fail to adequately reduce domestic greenhouse gas emissions if given credit for foreign nuclear energy investment; this despite the fact that actual domestic reductions could be cheaply and easily accomplished using renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency. According to congressional testimony by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE), energy efficiency alone could account for 60 percent of the emissions reduction necessary for the US to meet the Kyoto protocol.U.S. Environmentalists Say: Nuclear Power Is No Solution To Climate Change (http://www.nirs.org/climate/cop6/nirsnukes823.htm)
The ignorance in that one paragraph would require a book to refute, but it has been the MO of the anti-nuke know-nothings for decades: put a bunch of ludicrous, scare-mongering, scientifically-illiterate rhetoric into a press release and let the fear factor manipulate public reaction.
The buttheads have no shame.

U.S. Environmentalists Say: Nuclear Power Is No Solution To Climate Change
No s h i t, shirlocks. Neither is Kyoto. Neither is drinking Perrier nor giving head under the desk. There IS no solution to climate change. We can't do anything about it one way or the other.

Everyone should read State of Fear by Michael Crichton. In that novel, he debunks all of the environmental wacko theories about global warming using graphs and scientific facts with footnoted references. He provides 2 pages of references for the data in his graphs and a 21-page Bibliography of books and articles he used as references for the scientific facts in the book.
A few interesting points from the book:
- He shows several pages of graphs that show temperature measurements from around the world, some from the late 18th Century. At nearly all of those stations, temperatures have been FALLING steadily. However, in big cities temperatures are rising due to all the concrete, air conditioning, and population, in what are called heat islands. For example, temperatures in New York City have been rising since the late 18th Century, but temperatures in Albany, NY, and Rye, NY, FELL during that same period. Of the 0.6 degree Celsius increase in global temperatures in the past 100+ years, about 0.3 degrees can be attrbuted to those large-city heat islands.
- The environmental wackos have been claiming that the Antarctic ice cap has been thinning dramatically in recent years. The fact is that there has a significant THICKENING of that ice cap in the past 40 years, reversing, and note this, a 6,000-year thinning.
- Ice ages run in 20,000 year cycles and it's been nearly 20,000 years since the last ice age, so it's likely that we will soon be entering another ice age, if we aren't already in the beginning of one.
Note: In the book, Crichton provides sources for the above and every other scientific fact he presents.

I want us to get back the Medieval Optimum. Sunny weather. Lots of great food growing conditions. Lower energy costs. It all sounds good to me.

This above link blows away the LIES about the Artic Warming claims. They are full blown LIARS!
Here is the lying quote from the posted story.
"It said the Arctic region was warming fastest, threatening the livelihoods of indigenous hunters by thawing the polar ice-cap and driving species like polar bears toward extinction by the end of the century."
LIAR!
Then too at this time,Antartica is about 98% cooling and growing. That is shown in the link.
Now this next quote from these lying blowhards is a dead giveaway:
"If nothing is done, the earth will have warmed by 2.0 Celsius (3.6 Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels by some time between 2026 and 2060," the WWF said in a report.
It is a sure bet that these SCUM will say we need the dead on arrival Kyoto treaty. This is a moronic bunch since Kyoto Treaty is WORTHLESS,even admitted by some on the Global Warmers side.
