As I watch the events today concerning the fall of Lebanon I can’t help but think how gratifying this must be to President Bush. For over four years he has been saying that given the opportunity Middle Eastern states would not only choose democracy but risk their lives to obtain it. He was met by a barrage of Liberal Democrat naysayers that looked down their elitist noses and opined that, "These people cannot understand democracy it is bound to fail". Thank God for a leader with the strength of character and will who chose to ignore them. Every place it's been attempted whether it is the mostly agrarian and illiterate people of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com />Afghanistan, to the more industrialized and educated Iraqis democracy has succeeded. ffice
<P style=
Now we see stirrings in Egypt, Iran, and now Lebanon, as one by one the despotic collection of monarchies, theocracies, and Baathist military juntas begin to squirm as they feel the pressure of the average man who asks "why not us too? Even that bastion of Wahabiism Saudi Arabia, now contemplates allowing women to vote. A new wind now blows through out the Middle East like the san storms the region is famous for this wind will blast the old totalitarian governments from office allowing a new order to flower in this desert land.
During the eight years of the Reagan Administration One man with a vision was elected at a tme when our fractured nation was at its lowest ebb. Humiliated before the world we could ot even keep our citizens from being held hostage by Islamic fanatics. While an earlier President merely spouted hollow rhetoric Reagan acted. He dared to name the soviets the “Evil Empire” and demanded they tear down the wall that symbolized not only Communist repression but our years of futile attempts reverse the hold they had on so much of the world. The Democrats sniveled and whined forecasting a nuclear holocaust and labeled Reagan a madman; however, once confronted by a leader of resolute character backed by America's might and example the Iron curtain that appeared so impenetrable dissolved like a morning mist. One by one the old Communist regimes fell thus freeing hundreds of millions of Eastern Europeans.
In 2000 another man of vision arrived in Washington after little more than a year in office our nation was reeling before a cowardly attack that killed almost 3000 innocent men woman and children and plunged our society into near chaos. At this dark hour once again a great American stood alone before the world and dared to challenge the forces of darkness. Firm and resolute in his faith in God and the sure knowledge that given the choice all humans will choose freedom he demanded that the scourge of the civilized world, international terrorism and those that harbor and support it be brought to justice. He committed the might of America</ST1:pl to removing the yoke of oppression from two long suffering nations. Once again the Democrats wailed invoking visions of Vietnam and selfishly remarked that some people were just not fit to be free. Here again the strength and force of will of this great leader prevailed and hundreds of millions of people not only could breathe free air but were allowed to the polls to have a say for the first time in their lives on how they will be governed. <O:p

Ronald Reagan belongs to the ages; however long after those timid souls who mocked him are mere specks in the dust bin of history he will be remembered as the liberator of Eastern Europe. Fit to stand in the pantheon of other great Americans who brought liberty first to America and then to a long suffering people whose only sin was they were born a different color. Long after their bodies are dust, the deeds of Washington, Lincoln, and Reagan will remain an example to the world. Now another great American rises to join them. History will not be kind to his foes, small men named Kennedy, Clinton and Kerry will be forgotten. But George Bush’s legacy will endure forever
