 MAYOR MIKE'S GUN AGENDA
A bill in Congress to block lawsuits against gun-makers is hardly a perfect answer to litigious gun-control activists, but it seems the best recourse nonetheless.
Notwithstanding calls by folks like Mayor Bloomberg to defeat the bill.
Such sweeping legislation, which would limit suits by states and localities, should bother anyone concerned about limited government.
But, then, so should the explosion of those suits against a perfectly legal industry.
New York has joined other cities in suing gun-makers, claiming that the companies have done little to stop guns from getting into criminals' hands.

I despise an over reaching Federal government as much as you do T.G., however in this case I cant see where there is much choice. Its clear the anti-gun cabal and their pals in the Trial Lawyers Assoc. have decided since there is next to no chance of getting any meaningful anti-gun legislation passed for the foreseeable future their tactics will be to fall back on the one arm of government they still control the courts. Although it seems from recent decisions that even given the sorry state of the judiciary their reach still may have exceeded their grasp. However the strategy is clear, denied the favorable rulings from pet judges, these people are content to bankrupt the gun making industry by forcing them to take on the huge amounts of seed money being offered by the trial lawyers from their coffers budging with cash from the Tobacco settlements. Quite clearly the firearms industry cannot match the billions the antigun crowd has available; so we either stand by and allow them to force out all but the biggest gunmakers, or we put a stick in spokes of their wheels via the legislative process.
Actually I wouldnt stop there either; these blood sucking ambulance chasers have had have had their way far too long. Id shoot for meaningful across the board tort reform and a win or pay trial system whereby if you bring suit and lose you pay the legal fees and court costs of the winning party. In addition, Id cap legal fees at 10% of the damages awarded plus costs, and put an end to punitive damages in all but the most extreme cases. No one should be entitled to more money than they actually lost. Such a system would put an end to frivolous lawsuits, and these endless deep pocket class action suits where only the lawyers benefit.
Think of the cost reductions across the board in everything from healthcare to homeowners insurance rates that consumers would see if the threat of these lawyers were removed. The capital that would be freed would allow for a better standard of living for most Americans, with increased spending in such vital areas like industrial research and development and employment. I firmly believe the benefits derived from tort reform and an end to the financial terrorism the trial lawyers have gotten away with for so long would far exceed any harm the increased federal control might bring. <O:p

I believe in the case of a civil war, the bloodsuckers would be among the first to be executed by firing squad. It would benefit them greatly if they pulled their heads out of their asses and started acting like real lawyers.
