View Full Version : What Kind??

I guess we could start this off with the basics and see what kind of pets everyone has. Maybe one of us has a pet another has been thinking of getting and we can get information on whether or not it would be the right pet for us.
I have 2 dogs, a Bichon Frise named Schatzie and a black lab named Princess. I got Schatzie because my ex would only let me have a dog that doesn't shed. Bichons are like poodles - no shedding. The lab was a stray we rescued from a convenience store several months ago. True American stopped to get gas one night and he saw her just laying by the gas pumps. The clerk at the store said someone just dumped her and she had been waiting there for hours for her owner to return. Bottom line is, we took her home, tried to find an owner with no luck and now she is ours. She is the sweetest dog ever. I also have too many cats because I'm such a softie. But I'm at the limit now! I don't do litter boxes, so that's TA's job. (He's more of a softie than I am). Anyway, that's my story.
Tell us yours!:pee: :frenchpoo

I have a black lab named Buckshot, he's one year old. I have an Aussie Shepherd named Dixie (Muleracer named her) which I rescued from the pound when she was a puppy just 6 weeks old. I needed something to Mother during the 2000 election fiasco and we have one more new puppy which is a little female border collie named Sugar. She is a doll. Here is her picture...

Here's another one of my babies
http://freeconservatives.com/pics/members/warlady/dreamer.jpg
That is Dreamer. She's a registered Tennesee Walking horse. She's 7 years old now. We also have 3 cats that are SUPPOSED to keep the mouse population in check but they are lazy. Their names are "Red", a tabby cat, Blue a beautiful fluffy long haired calico and Bootsie their Mother who is also a calico but she's short haired.
Well the pet population in this house has lessened some, but to date I have one Silky terrier who is a lap-baby if i ever saw one, he's 6 yrs old and his momma died of cancer and he had to have a new home so we ended up with him.
His name is Zack and he's a sweetie
Here's a webcam pic of him:
http://w3.gorge.net/rink/zack1.JPG
Then there's mothers pooch, Muffin who is 7 years old and is a Teacup maltese, very opinionated little girl, gotta be held by me the moment I get up in the morning (her morning huggies) she sleeps in her own bed on top of mom's bed and is thoroughly spoiled rotten (as if they all arent?)
Here's a funny pic of mom's pooch:
http://w3.gorge.net/rink/Muffin500.jpg
Then I have just one horse who is an all-around sweetie as well, she's 25 years old, she's Half Arabian, half Saddlebred.
Here's a show pic of her as well:

Hope ya like em :)

Oreo and Smokey. Oreo is part German Shorthair (dog) and Smokey is the mangy cat, doing what he does best.
Right click the pic in question and pick " Show Picture " It may be your browser?

Here's the Doom crew, in order, Scamp, Wiggy and Greyskull. I received Scamp as a Dad's Day companion from my son, inherited the kitty when the lad moved and couldn't bring the critter, and sort of rescued Wiggy from a home that didn't want him and IMO abused him.

In order of appearance in the pictures above:
1. Willy (pictured below)- First off, I have to clarify the name. We were going to name him Willy-Or-Wonty?, but my daughter REALLY wanted to honor the Lord (as she felt He had honored her with the receipt of her horse), so she decided instead upon the name "His Will Be Done", and of course, the barn name is Willy. He is a thoroughbred gelding, flea-bitten in color, 16.2 hands high, eight years old. He was owned and ridden by sisters, college girls who only rode him in the summers since he was broke. His nutrition was atrocious when we got hiim, but we have managed to put about 200lbs on him, and now he looks really good. Needs some muscle and tone conditioning, but overall a 100% improvement.
My daughter took him to the show ring for the first time just this afternoon. There is a big 4H show tomorrow, but she is not participating as we don't feel he is quite ready yet -- we are shooting for the April 4H and Heritage Shows. We took him to school, so we could see how he would do in a ring and around other people/horses/noises. He was FANTASTIC!! She even did some jumps with him. They looked marvelous! Almost brought tears to my eyes. Below is a bigger picture of him and my daughter.
http://w3.gorge.net/rink/Taffy%20Candy.jpg
2. Next is Taffy Candy -- She is a Miniature Pinscher/Jack Russell mix, and she is totally insane. We got her for my daughter after her (pound) kitty died from kidney failure (which we did NOT know it had a kidney disease when we got it from the pound). Taffy was a stray, and the person who found her was looking for a home for her. She is an older dog (you can tell by the gray on her muzzle), but she loves us, most ESPECIALLY Bubba, and she hates . . . can openers, vacuum cleaners, microwave buzzers, oven timers, personal fans, robotic dogs, lizards, cats, and thunder.
http://w3.gorge.net/rink/Holly%20Terror1.JPG
3. Holly Terror, who really is a lovable furr-horse, is our rottweiler. She is a terrific family dog, she loves me best :D , and she loves everyone and everything. She's happy-go-lucky, unless you don't belong in our yard -- in which case, she is your worst nightmare. She enjoys pulling apart the foam stuffing from her pillow-bed, annoying our Taffy, running up and down the fence line acting threatening to Willy, and getting in your lap (because she THINKS she's a lap-dog). She has hip displaisia, and probably won't be with us much longer, as her health has been steadily deteriorating despite treatment. Until then, though she is loved, loved, and loved somemore, and will be greatly missed.
http://w3.gorge.net/rink/Toga%20Toga1.JPG
4. Last, but CERTAINLY not least, is Toga! Toga!. He is a one year old Savannah Monitor lizard. My son got him as a hatchling (according to the reptile dealer, only 2 weeks hatched). He has grown from just around 5" to a woping foot and a half, and will continue to grow to be between 2-3 feet long (but can get longer, and have been known to get up to over 4). He's eating mice now (yuck! frozen), and he is my son's pride and joy. Li'l Bubba researched for 3 months before getting him on his birthday last year, finding out all he could about these types of lizards. He hand built the lizard cage in a shop class he took at the university (we have a friend who's a prof, and gave up his lunch hour once a week to teach my son!), and he lovingly takes care of him, and handles him daily. Toga often goes to town with us, in my son's pants pocket. Believe it or not, we have totally forgotten about him and gone to lunch, clothes shopping, to Walmart, the video store, and of course, PetSmart.
We have several lizards, frogs, and various and sundry reptilian critters my son is in the process of rehabilitating or keeping to show his friends, then let go. We take in all kinds of strays, and most recently tried our hand at taking care of an abandoned baby squirrel. Unfortunately, after 4 days the little fellow passed away. We are "Drop-Your-Strays-Here" Central, so we always have aminals coming and going, but the ones above are the permanent residents, LOL.

Plus the two squirrels running back and forth on the roof the house and living in the oak tree in the front lawn. Then, there's the skunk across the street, two cattle in the back yard, two horses next door to the West, and about 40 head of cattle to the East. There's also the pack of coyotes to the East as well.
It's a zoo out here in the country.
Home, your four pics are not showing, if you want someone to host them I'm happy to oblige.
And Doc, your cat Greyskull looks exactly like my last kitty Smokey, she was the sweetest kitty I ever had.

Once we get our new edition (couple of weeks) I will post some pictures. We have 1 tuxedo cat (Nino), a 3 1/2 year old black lab (Barkley - named after Charles Barkley) and we are getting a new puppy, another black lab that we will name Murphy, after my wifes favortie baseball player Dale Murphy. My uncle raises labs, well this is his last litter he will be doing. He knew that we were talking about another puppy and said we better do it this time (what they hell are we doing! LOL) so as a surprise to my girls, we will have a new addition to the family soon.

Well hosting a pic would mean I place a picture up on my website thus I get a URL to that pic so I can post the pic in jpg form and then I can use the http://www.freeconservatives.com/vb/images/white/editor/insertimage.gif instead of trying to upload attachements.
makes life easier in making a pic show up.
When you find the pics lemme know in a PM and I'll send u the email addy i want you to send em to, think my hotmail wont take certain attachements so I'll have to give you another email addy for that k?
Just lemme know when you have the pics, and then we can get started with this.
Now on the hosting, go to my posted pics, right-click them and then go to properties and then copy the URL on there, then open a new browser page and paste that URL up top.
Thats an example of what a hosted pic is.
its up on a website and as long as you have the path-name to that hosted pic thats uploaded onto the website then it will show.

We've got...
Poncho, a black lab/jack russel/pug mix. Looks like a jack russell-sized lab with pug ears and eyes.
Mystery, Spook and Midnight three all black siblings that my wife rescued.
Mystery's a declawed 95% indoors cat. After she goes outside and then comes in, she's the friendliest cat you ever sa. She's also addicted to laser pointers.
Spook and Midnight are the neighborhood bird-killers. Everyone else's property has birds, ours is pretty much bird-free. I've seen Spook launch of the top of my grill to take a hummingbird moth out of the air, he's a killing machine!!!
Miranda, our old tabby
Fluffy, the Persian mix ball of fur that's never allowed to come inside because she leaves a trail of hair everywhere she goes.

I saved them, and I don't know what I saved them under!First, go to the desktop. Hit the Windows key + the 'F' key. It will open the Search window. Then search for *.jpg. It will find every JPG file on the computer. When you locate the ones you want, ckick on them and drag them to the desktop, which will move them there. After that you can stuff them where you know where they are.
"Hosting" means using a website to store files. I use Photobucket (http://www.photobucket.com/), but there are a number of graphics hosting sites out there. If you have just a few photos, Rink can store them on her website and provide links to them.

Thank you so very much Doc. You are always so kind to me, and helpful, and patient (and BOY are you patient, LOL). I really do appreciate you, and all your help. You have really been a lifesaver with me and my computer illiteracy.
Rink was so kind to help me with the pics, I think they are showing up now so you can check them out. She also told me about a program you referred to her ... infra-something or other -- anyway, she gave me the link, and I'm going to check it out.

I have a Golden Retriever named Sierra....she is 12 years old, and she is mostly white now. I have had her as long as I can remember, very loyal, the type that will lay by you when you are sick and she can tell when you are not in a good mood. She was our first.
About 2 years ago, my mom picked up at the Vet's office while taking my Golden there, a 2 year old Dauchsund(sp?) mix with a Cocker Spaniel. Her face looks like a cocker so she is even cuter that a regualr Dauchsund and has the most vibrant personality I have ever seen in a dog. She can jump 3 feet into your lap, she gets up on her hind legs when u give her food, she, "Points" (lifts one paw up in the air) when she sniffs the air, barks (it should be clucks, sounds like a chicken lol) softly at first then just gets loud as hell. Her name is Lucy.
The best part about Lucy is she will get under the blankets when anyone has them, she will literally dig to get under by your legs..a friend of mine told me it is becasue Dachsunds were used to hunt burrow animals and it's in their insticts, can anyone verify that by chance? I wish I had pictures of them online.

Dachsunds. In 1992 they ranked eighth in popularity for AKC breeds, with about 50,000 registrations, and they've long been in the top ten. This FAQ attempts to give you the background and characteristics of this breed, through a mixture of facts gathered from numerous sources (referenced below), from first hand experience with my Dachshund, Chillie, and conversations with other Dachshund owners. Development of the Dachshund The current Dachshunds (also known as Teckels, Dachels, or Dachsels) originated in Germany. In fact, the name Dachshund is German for "badger dog," indicating why these dogs were originally bred - to hunt badgers.

Mushu had the pin in his leg removed yesterday. He is now on 10 days cage rest for everything to heal and to strengthen his leg. He also got a micro-chip, so he is now a member of the Borg Collective.
Here a couple of recent pictures of him in durance vile.
