As an Easter treat, I've added some new BB codes to the boards. These will display on most browsers, but may not display on some of the uncommon ones. Don't worry if you use one of the new codes, and someone views your post with a browser that doesn't recognize it. The text of your post will still show up, just the new special effect won't. You need to remove the spaces that I've added to the codes under the "what you type" section for them to work. Other new ones will also be added shortly, so keep checking this thread for updates.

New Code #1: Spoiler. Puts black text on black background. Highlighting reveals the text.

What you type: [ spoiler ]text[/ spoiler ]

Example: Let's say I wanted to do a quiz and have the answers below each question. I could do this:

What is 2+2?

[ spoiler ]Four[ / spoiler ]

Which gets Four

New code #2: Glow. Neat effect

What you type: [ glow=color ]text[/ glow]

Example: If I typed [ glow=red ]Howdy, mam![/ glow] I'd get

Howdy, mam!

Additional info: If you want to have the text be one color and the glow effect be another, then you need to put the color tag for the text FIRST. For example: [ color=red ][ glow=yellow ]I love strawberry lemonade![ / glow ][/ color ] gives:

I love strawberry lemonade!

New Code #3: Blur. Neat blurring effect

What you type: [ blur=# ]text[/ blur] (You need to replace the # sign with an integer. The higher the integer, the blurrier it gets.)

Examples: If I put [ blur=2 ]Libs are dumb [ / blur ], I get

Libs are dumb

If I put [ blur = 4 ]Libs are dumb [ / blur ], I get

Libs are dumb

New Code #4: Marquee. Scrolls the text up

What you type: [ marquee ]text[ /marquee ]

Example: [ marquee ] Conservatives rule! [ /marquee ] gets:

Conservatives rule!

Additional info: You can combine this one with others, including glow. For example: [ marquee ] [ glow=red] We like Antonin Scalia. [ / glow ] [ / marquee ] gets

We like Antonin Scalia.

New Code #5: Flip vertical. Flips the text vertically.

What you type: [ flipv ]text[ /flipv ]

Example: [ flipv ]Libs are so messed up[ /flipv ] gets

Libs are so messed up

New Code #6: Flip horizontal. I think you can figure it out.

What you type: [ fliph ]text[ /fliph ]

Example: [ fliph ]Libs are so messed up[ /fliph ] gets

Libs are so messed up

Whoops, everything below the "glow" section was glowing there for a moment. That's because I had closed a div tag with a span ending in the BB code settings, lol. OK, now everything should be back to normal, LOL

Opera ignores them except for Spoiler and Marquee. IE doesn't respond to Flipv. However, they're cute. I also note that the message below shows up (I have it set to approval mode). Ergo, if the effects don't appear in IE, it might well be the security settings, which is good.

Figures you'd have the broswer that doesn't recognize the "filter" part of div. :D I may be able to replicate the effect in a way that works on even that browser.

On the plus side, Opera doesn't have lebenty seven security updates. :D

I changed all the div tags to span tags (in the background, you don't have to do anything different, just follow the instructions on the first post), so now you can do funky things like this without any paragraph breaks:

Hi,guysandgals

Edit: Had to change back to div, because it wasn't showing up for some people.

The only ones that work for me (Netscape 7.1) are spoiler and marquee.

They don't show up for you now, Unk? Does this show OK?

With my AOL, I only get spoiler and marquee, I don't get the others http://www.freeconservatives.com/vb/images/icons/shake.gif .

My AOL browser isn't seeing any of it.

03-27-2005, 03:47 PM
Oh, you are getting ripped off. AOL is overpriced for what they offer.

Respectfully suggesting that applies to MSN as well,

ThomasIsUnderrated
03-27-2005, 03:59 PM
For the AOL people, part of the problem may be your browser settings. I'll look into it right away. What bother's me the most is what Unk said. He had no problem getting them earlier, but now he can't? (If that's the case, then it may have something to do with changing them from div to span, but I can't imagine why that would be, because they still show up for me.) Unk, please reply (or respond to the PM I sent you) and give more detail.

With IE I can see the marquee!! I tried FireFox and got nadda.

I couldnt see the changes TIU made, as with Unk it isnt working for me also, and I have IE

ThomasIsUnderrated
03-27-2005, 04:19 PM
It worked for Unk at first, Rink. Did you see it earlier?

UnkHiram
03-27-2005, 04:37 PM
I am so confused. I cant figure out how come it dont work anymore. Thomas can you explain real slow with little words for us poor dumb East Texas Rednecks?

ThomasIsUnderrated
03-27-2005, 04:39 PM
Unk, refresh the page. Does it work now?

Yuppers they be working agin. Thanks Bunches Mr Thomas

ThomasIsUnderrated
03-27-2005, 04:43 PM
OK, then it did have to do with the change from div tags to span tags. I switched the glow and blur back to div tags right before I told you to refresh, so that was it. I'll have to figure out what's up

HomeschoolrsRUs
03-27-2005, 04:43 PM
Thomas, I see them now!! Kewwwwl Beans!

ThomasIsUnderrated
03-27-2005, 04:45 PM
OK, well, using the div tag has its downsides, such as it inserts a break, but it will have to do until I figure out why the span tag isn't working right for glow and blur (yet it worked for some of the others) for some browsing with IE and AOL.

DoctorDoom
03-27-2005, 05:41 PM
With IE, lowering the security settings might make them visible. Until I clicked Yes in the dialog box on the previous page, they did not show up. The box appears because my IE security settings call for asking my approval to run them.

Go to Tools > Internet Options > Security > Internet > Custom settings and scroll down until this appears.

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v349/DocDoom777/RunActiveX.jpg" />

If it's set to Disable, it won't allow most of the effects. Mine is set to Prompt, and that results in the dialog box. Security awareness dictates NOT clicking Enable.

An alternative is putting FC into the Trusted Sites zone, where the default security level is Low (and unchecking the https box in the Sites window).

Warlady
03-27-2005, 06:55 PM
Now all of them are working with AOL. What's up with that?

As the most non-techie person a computer may have ever experienced, I felt the need to prove that I am unteachable in the ways of "coloring the computer words that I am trying to e-color while I type."

[ glow=red ]Is this working[/ glow]

seeeeeee I knew it would be lost on me :P

Melz, leave no spaces between the brackets and the words. I think that may be what's going wrong for you. Of course I am probably the second most non-techie person on this board, so very well could be that I'm wrong, LOL.

UnkHiram
03-30-2005, 08:59 PM
Leave out the space and it will work, Homes was 100% correct. She is becoming a Redneck Geek

Melz

Trying again

If this works, I shall type everything in a glowing nature, if not, I shall re"boot" the computer out the dern window!

Melz
03-30-2005, 09:05 PM
Haha now you have to attempt to read my forever glowing posts!

by the way, can I type any colour..like does purple or green or blue work? Can I make up some colors, like burnt sienna (*remembering crayon colors now*)

UnkHiram

It worked
