These are best by the fistful with a glass of cold milk.
Molasses Crinkles
Cream together in bowl:
3/4 cup soft shortening
1 cup brown sugar (packed)
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses
Stir together in another bowl:
2 1/4 cups flour
2 teas. soda
1 teas. cinnamon
1 teas. ginger
1/2 teas. ground cloves
1/4 teas. salt
Mix these dry ingredients into shortening mixture.
Chill dough in refrigerator 2 hours or overnight.
Heat oven to 350 degrees F and lightly grease a baking sheet.
Roll teaspoonfuls of chilled dough into balls the size of large walnuts. Dip the tops in sugar. Place cookies, sugared side up, 3 inches apart on baking sheet.
Bake 10-15 minutes, or just until set but not hard. Cool on wire rack. Makes about 4 dozen cookies.

Ah...I got a fantastic cookie cookbook for Christmas a few years ago. "Pillsbury Best Cookies cookbook"..I have yet to find a bad recipe in it. If anyone has a favorite cookie they would like me to look up, just say the word.
My personal favorite in it would be....
[b]Cream Cheese Cutout Cookies
1 cup sugar
1 cup softened butter
1 pkg (3oz) softened cream cheese
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
colored decorator sugar if desired
1. In a large bowl, combine butter and cream cheese; beat until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and egg; blend well. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hr.
2. Heat oven to 375. On a lightly floured surface roll out half dough at a time to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes with floured cookie cutters. Place 1 inch apart on cookie sheet. (decorate now if desired)
3. Bake at 375 for 7-10 minutes or until edges are light golden brown.
Cool for 1 minute. (these cookie can also be frosted)
I like them best plain.
Another variation.. cut the dough with a drinking glass and add 1 teaspoon of jam. Then pinch the sides up and bake the same way. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
