View Full Version : "Saw"
Go rent it. If for no other reason than it has my name in it.
Respectfully clarifying that I never stabbed anyone with a rusty nail,

I thought it started off brilliantly then kinda went limp wristed at the end.

S-T what is it about and how do we find out that your name is in it?
S-T what is it about and how do we find out that your name is in it? Some wacko has been putting people in deathtraps. He manages to get people to kill themselves trying to escape the deathtraps; he doesn't kill his victims personally... not at first anyway.
Basically, at one point in the film, two "random" guys stuck in a bathroom chained to pipes on opposite ends of the room are arguing. The one guy (who played Westley in The Princess Bride) demands the other stop holding out information. The other responds with something along the lines of "I'll tell you everything. When I was 6 years old, my best friend Scott Tibbs stabbed me with a rusty nail..."
I thought it started off brilliantly then kinda went limp wristed at the end.I didn't like the very end of the film. SPOILER! Highlight the text to read it. The bad guy won. He killed all three of his intended victims and the police officer died too. The audience never sees the bad guy get what is coming to him. It was a good movie, but the ending needed just a few more minutes.

We watched this movie last night. The problems I had with it are the language (not ALL of the "blue" was necessary), and the gore (a little too much blood for my taste, but not nearly as much as say the Halloween, Friday the 13th, or Freddy series).
HOWEVER, as suspense goes, I thought it achieved the mark brilliantly. This was the first movie in a LONG, long time that I hadn't figured out "who-dun-it" before the first 1/3 of the movie was over. I was totally tricked. And, yes, while I would have preferred that it have a more "clear cut" ending (and that's ALL I will reveal), I enjoyed the cliffhanger . . . you know there's GOTTA be a sequel! Hollywood just hasn't succeeded as of late with a REAL suspense thriller. I guess the suspense business is certainly mourning the loss of such greats as Hitchcock (MY personal ALL TIME favorite!).
M.Night has done pretty well . . . 6th Sense got me TOTALLY, and I really liked Unbreakable, but it should have come out BEFORE 6th Sense to have worked (box-office wise). I hope he can get back to his old self -- I liked The Village, but again, I think it was made out of order from the rest, to have been a financial success.

I am an M.Night fanatic. As stories go his are up there with the best, but add to that the fact that they are superb examples of top notch cinematography married to beautiful aural soundscapes and you have film making of the highest calibre.

Wow, I cannot believe we finally found an area where we agree.
I like his stuff too, I just think his movies came out, out of order. If he would have (made and) released them in a different order, I think every single one of them would have been box office smashes. Here's the way I wish they would have come out:
1. Unbreakable, 2. The Village, 3. Signs, 4. The Sixth Sense
I think with Unbreakable coming AFTER the blockbuster Sixth Sense, and The Village coming AFTER the blockbuster Signs, decreased their (Unbreakble, The Village) success.
I am, however, looking forward to his next cinematic masterpiece (if he's making one!) I really like his movie-making too.

The Village took me by surprise. There was an interview with M.Night on the Signs DVD where he basically said he'd run out of ideas and wasn't working on anything new. So I kinda figured then that 3 films was all we were going to get.
I also like the film student mentality M.Night brings to the DVD editions of his films. You can tell he loves the DVD special features idea and loves letting people in on the secrets of the art form. I especially like the mini clips he shows from his first homemovies.

The Village took me by surprise.
Me too! The only problem was, after watching the first three movies, I had this "image" built up in my imagination as to what the "surprise" was, so that when it actually occured it was a bit of a let down. That's why I think if IT had come out first, the surprise would have been "bigger" and the box office draw greater.

I haven't seen that. Actually, we haven't gotten the Signs DVD to rent ... we went and saw it at the theater. I hope he has a "light bult" go on, because I would really like for him to make some more. I do believe he has the capability to be a master, in the footsteps of the Great Hitch!

Actually, there are four films. And I would like to get ALL of them. At my local Sam's Club they had Signs and Sixth Sense packaged together, but I didn't have any spare $$ to get it at the time. Now I can't find it! 'Course, I haven't been back across town to Sam's lately, so maybe they've restocked.

I need to get those movies for our home library . . . when we rent them from the video store, we rarely watch the special features (being on a time schedule to return them, and all).

I know there are four, I own them all. When Signs came out though there were only three as The Village hadn't even been written yet. Thats what I meant by thinking three was all we were gonna get.

Nothing wrong with being Christian, as long as you are true to yourself and to your faith. :)

I really enjoyed all of his movies except the village. Huge let down especially after 6th sense and signs.
