Again, like actors and actresses, putting all politics aside -- who are your favorite directors of all time?

The good un's: Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, Kubrick, Sam Raimi, Gibson, Eastwood & Speilberg(when he isn't doing mainstream bullshit).

The ones who plain suck are(in no particular order): Bruckheimer, Stone, Redford & Speilberg(when he's doing Jurassic 1 thru 5, E. Frikkin T., Gremlins 5, Twister, Goonies etc. etc. puke etc. etc.).

Ain't too sure yet on Shyamalan & Gore Verbinski.

Alfred Hitchcock, Steven Speilberg, Frank Capra, Ron Howard, Francis Ford Coppola, Stanely Kubrick, Kevin Costner (Dances with Wolves, Open Range), Mel Gibson, Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese.

Stone is the most overrated director ever. As for Spielberg: he's great . . . or he's the worst. Wyatt listed his crap; his great films are The Color Purple, Jaws, Close Encounters, Amistad, Empire of the Sun, Saving Private Ryan, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Schindler's List. Robert Redford's films are pretentious and boring.

Hitchcock and Capra rule.

Kubrick has reached a height with film that I doubt will ever be reached again. He's absolutely unstoppable. Him and Fellini are my permanent favourites, that wont ever change. Today, its a shame to say, most of the best work is being produced outside North America. Hollywood has drained almost all of the passion and art out of film and replaced it with the tits&explosions formula, hoping nobody would notice. This is fine for a friday night, but rots your mind and can hardly sustain my interest. Top directors, other than the two mentioned above, goes like this: Roy Andersson (Sweden), Akira Kurosawa (Japan), Gaspar Noe (France), and Michael Haneke (Germany). That said, theres an underground/independent scene in the US and Canada thats still thriving and loaded with quality, although they'll never make it to the megaplex.
