My vet is telling me that if I don't have my lab spayed, she will eventually have a problem with her cervix staying open and getting infections, has anyone ever heard of that?

LadyHawk,
I have never heard such a thing. You might consider getting a second opinion.

There are definite health problems associated with unspayed female dogs.

SOME GENITO-URINARY SYSTEM PROBLEMS AND DISEASES (http://www.candog.com/cavaliers/Health/GENITO-URINARY.htm)

Pyometra In The Dog (http://www.thepetcenter.com/sur/pyo.html)

Unless the intent is breeding, spaying is strongly recommended.

Lady Hawk you need to get her spayed....her insides will be damaged if she doesn't have puppies. save her the pain...or let her get pregnant.

LadyH how old is your lab? Is she in season? We just had our 8 month old border collie spayed and she came through it with flying colors. I'm not sure what your vet is referring to. I think he is full of shit but go ahead and have her spayed if you don't plan to breed her.

WL, I think she is about 10. Not sure since we picked her abandoned at a convenience store. The vet says about 10 though.
