Planned Parenthood officer called to resign
Accused of conflict of interest in role as state tax official

A pro-family legal group is calling on a California official to resign from the board of Planned Parenthood of Los Angeles (http://www.pplosangeles.org/site/PageServer) or face a lawsuit due to an alleged conflict of interest.
The Pro-Family Law Center (http://www.defendthefamily.com/) of Southern California, or PFLC, says John Chiang, a member of the California State Board of Equalization, is serving as an elected tax official while remaining on the management team of a private organization alleged to have committed tax abuses.
"It seems pretty fundamental that one should not be serving concurrently on the Board of Equalization while at the same time sitting on the governing board of a private provider that receives tax money and public contracts," said Richard Ackerman, president of PFLC. "The mere appearance of preference in bidding and contracts is enough to raise the issue of a conflict of interest from a taxpayer perspective."
