My father was an AVID model railroader. He LOVED trains. We would have to visit the train station at ANY place we visited when on vacation or traveling. He even had three special train-cars bearing the names of my mom, my dad and me that he would run around the tree at Christmas.

In fact, he loved trains SO much, he actuall began building a real steam locomotive in our carport. Trains brought him great joy, and I know there are others who enjoy model railroading.

So, the May Hobbie of the Month is . . .

Here is a link to an introduction to Model Railroading, for those who might be interested in learning more about it:

For those of you who enjoy this hobby, please share some stories or pictures of your models here in the thread. I have MANY memories of trains growing up, and I will add mine as I see others sharing.

So, All Aboard!

Oh boy, wait until dP gets online... he has been doing model railroading for years. I don't even know where to start. The trains are N and 1:29 and the live steam is 1:20.3.

He owns 2 Yahoo groups: Fairbanks Morse (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FairbanksMorse/)
This group is for enthusiasts of Fairbanks Morse diesel locomotives . Modelers of all scales and historians are all welcome.

and GMod (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GMod/)

This is a list designed to support the growth of Modular Garden Scale model railroading . Scales usually range from 1:32 to 1:13 scale . A variety of scale and gauge combinations are used in the building of these portable modules .

If you have an interest in Large Scale Railroading ...Join the GMod group and join the fun ....

Hi Homeschool !

Those pics are of the outdoor scale railroading hobby that I have been involved with for a few years ....

The two close up pics are of my trains on a friends garden layout ...

the far off pic is of a friends layout where he was running a 65 car long train ....

I have a live steam engine also , runs on butane and water ... I have no pics of it running yet ..I think I'll take that one on the road and run it at truck stops to pass the summer nights on the road ....

www.aristocraft.com is where I also hang out ....

I even found a Montana State Trooper that works at the Haugan,MT scales that is into the BIG trains :claps: (guess Troopers are human after all and don't live/feast on Big Trucks and Four Wheelers alone ;) )

I think model trains are cool. In Childrens hospital in Dallas, they have a two story winding 15 mile (I think) track with literally hundreds of things to look at. Buildings, people, scenes representing different parts of Texas and Dallas History. It's really cool.
