Pretty niave question here, but I have a couple indoor plants in my room since it doesn't get much fresh air, and I wanted to get a better flow of oxygen in it ... anyway, I was wondering, does it do a plant any good to put it by a window to get it's sunlight? Or does it have to be outside and get UV rays? I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but I wanted to double check.

Your plants will love to be near sunlight indoors. Outdoor fresh air and sun are actually a bonus to them, but indoor sunlight works great for them! keep an eye on the soil though, it will dry out quicker. You should re-pot them every two years also.

Does it need to be direct sunlight?

depends on the kind of plant you have. I believe I have over-sunned a few indoor plants but for the most part, as long as there is light in the room, the plant should be fine.
