June's Hobby of the Month: Clogging!

( picture found here: www.jims-pages.com/ news/archive001.html (http://www.jims-pages.com/news/archive001.html) )

Dancing is therapeutic and fun. I have always wanted to learn how to clog . . . perhaps one day I will. I know Baptists aren't "supposed" to dance, but even David enjoyed a jig or two, LOL. I have watched some live cloggin performances, and I am amazed at the stamina of the dancers. It looks like a hoot!

Here is a link to information about clogging: ClogText (http://members.aol.com/mdevin/clogtext.html)

Do you clog? Have you ever wanted to try? Who would be willing to learn just for fun?

Let me know what you think about this month's "Hobby of the Month." If you would like to make a suggestion for upcoming months, please PM me and I'll put yours on the list!

Happy hoofin'!

I did want to try because I tap danced and was in pom poms. The pom pom team did jazz, pom, hip-hop and lyrical dances at football and basketball games. The last town I lived in is proud of their "Little General Cloggers."

The Cloggers have appeared on:

* Today Show
* Hee Haw (2 times)
* Dancin' USA
* Nashville Palace
* Mike Douglas Show
* Nashville Now
* Rise & Shine
* All Star anything goes
* Uncle Milton
* James Brown Show
* Music Country USA
* Today in Georgia

STAGE:

* Grand Ole Opry (28 years)
* Kenny Rogers for Camp Sunshine
* Don Ho Show (Hawaii)
* Al Harrington Show (Hawaii)
* Louisianna Hayride
* Renfroe Valley, KY
* The Texas Show
* Charlie Daniels Band
* Hank Snow
* Mickey Gilley
* Ricky Skaggs
* Loretta Lynn
* Charlie Pride
* Garth Brooks

MORE:

* The White House (3 times)
* The National Press Club, D.C.
* 1996 Olympics, Centennial Park
* World's Fair, Knoxville, TN
* World's Fair, New Orleans, LA
* Democratic Convention, Atlanta, GA
* And Most States in the U.S.

I made tryouts and thought of joining but two things prevented me. The majority of them are Dems and secondy, I know it sounds shallow but I wouldn't be caught dead in some of their outfits. Such as this one:

Now THESE outfits shown below I would really go for! But, they didn't go with those until after I moved out of Kennesaw:

Nowadays I'm trying to re-learn country western dances. But yes, clogging is fun if you don't mind the outfits. ;)

BTW when I grew up in the Baptist church, I danced anyway. ;) David danced before the Lord and Psalms says we are to praise God with dance.

I took some line-dance lessons with my Mother-In-Law a few years back, and it really was a lot of fun. I have often thought about trying to find a clogging group around my parts, or some dance studio to go learn, but I know without a SHADOW of a doubt that my Bubba would NEVER go with me :smirky: . Without him, it wouldn't be much fun for me.

It really seems like a neat thing to do. As for the "dancing," my Bubba and I love to dance together. I see nothing wrong with it -- we don't do "dirty dancing," and we don't dance with other "partners." The downside is, there are no dance clubs near me that aren't bars -- we don't do bars. SO we dance at home, at weddings and events, and that's about it. We did sneak off to a place in Jacksonville called "57 Heaven" -- and oldies place. It was a bar, but because of the genre (golden oldies) it was mainly older couples, not drinking and carousing singles. We had such a GREAT time -- course woulda had more fun with another couple, but we made the best of it (if you know what I mean) :grin: .

We just personally do not have a problem with dancing (as I have explained) -- satan takes many "good" things and twists and perverts them. I refuse to allow him to take this one from me and my Bubba. :smirky:

Yah, I know what you mean. :) Well in Nashville, we went to "WildHorse" and it was a blast. There were "older couples" which was fine by me. The floor was huge. They gave dance lessons at 6 followed by country western bands at 7. It went on for a while with lessons given every hour. I got to meet some band members "backstage." (32 Below)

One of them joked to me that trucking would pay more. :crazy:

:icon126: (http://www.freeconservatives.com/vb/misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=1&forumid=54#), well, I must be honest and confess -- Bubba and I actually MET at a country-n-western bar, called "Papa's". From the first moment of our first dance, I was bowled over by the guy (but still retained enough braincells to find out more about him, before falling like a fool, :smirky: ).

We went to many dance-halls in our dating days, and quite a few after we were married. Things definitely changed when we got saved, though -- the desire to dance was still there, but no place to go :crazy: .

Unfortunately, Bubba thinks clogging is for "sissies," :grin: , so that's completely out of the picture. :smirky:

All this talk about dancing and Baptists reminds me of a joke. You may cyber-slap me if I'm out of line:

Q - Why don't Baptists make love standing up?
A - They don't want anyone to think they're dancing.

Aw Homes, I'm so sorry. I looked up clogging in your area and they do have the lessons Sunday nights. Tell Bubba it's his chance to come and watch you shake some booty. ;) :D

This is a FREE class and we`ll teach easy moves to get your feet tapping to music for all tastes. Those with two left feet are especially encouraged to attend. :) No dance experience or special shoes needed. Class will meet 6:00-6:45 p.m. for three Sundays
