The holiday shopping season leaped out of the gate, according to a nationwide sales report released Saturday.
ShopperTrak RCT estimated that sales were up 12.3 percent Friday compared with the day after Thanksgiving a year earlier. Last year's comparable sales were up 2.7 percent from the 2000 "Black Friday," which is fabled to be the day retailers switch from red ink to black on their balance sheets.
