I went to see this the other night with the wife and son. Even my wife liked the film. I very much enjoyed it as did my son. Here is my review:
Of all the Batmans made, I felt that Christian Bale did the best job. If you remember, Michael Keaton did the first 2 movies, Val Kilmer did the third and George Clooney did the fourth. The only one I didn't like was Kilmer as Batman. Not a good role for him. Anyway...
Bale played the suit, the suit didn't play him. It starts out showing young Bruce as a fearful child who over time confronts his fears as he grows older. Michael Caine plays Alfred and I think he did an outstanding job taking care of the young Bruce Wayne and maintaining the home while Bruce travels.
He saves his crime ridden city from organized crime and his first villain, the Scarecrow, who runs his own asylum for the criminally insane, which coveniently, he is able to release convicts to his asylum as a psychiatrist in the court system. He also fights the man who trains him to face his fears played by Liam Neeson
Katie Holmes does a good job as a frustrated DA and Morgan Freeman has a good supporting role in Wayne Enterprises.
I like this movie. If you've seen the other Batmans, it is a must see. When you see the first Batmobile, understand why I said to my wife, "I need one of those to drive to work in."

The concept was much more interesting before the recent supreme court case Kelo v. New London. It is just depressing to realize that even if Batman tried to reform Gotham by only legal means in the U.S. today, the politicians whom the criminals would bribe would also seize Bruce Wayne's billions and make the Bat Cave into a strip mall. :shake:

We went to see the Movie last weekend. Bale does a superb job as the Bat, he looks completely psycotic when in the costume, Which is neccessary in my opionon. I think M Keaton did a better job as the bat, but was a lousy Bruce Wayne. Bale did a much better job as Bruce Wayne. The villian, was superb for the first villiam to face the new Bat. (Ooops, almost gave away the villian and the subplot).
Of the Seven movies so far, This was the best by far. Rating the Bat Movies to date
1) Batman Begins (Bale)
2) Batman (Keaton)
3) Batman Returns (Keaton)
4) Batman Forever (Kilmer)
5) Batman (1966 - Adam West)
6) Batman and Robin (1949 Serial)
7) Batman and Robin (1997 Clooney)

I really liked it. Did you notice that Gotham wasn't computer generated but a real city. Which one?
It was a whole lot of them. It was edited from shots of different cities. I saw some Chigago, naturally some NYC and even a little LA. Some places I couldn't recognize so it must be a major city I'm not familiar with.
Has anyone else noticed?

I did notice one inconsistency in the story line. If you remember in the first "Batman" movie, Jack Napier (The Joker) kills the Wayne's outside of the theatre. In "The Beginning," they are killed outside the theatre but it isn't by Jack Napier.

In the original Comic Book The parents were killed by an unknown thier. Much later (maybe 20 years) we learned the thiefs name was Joe Chill. In the Comic Mythology the Joker had nothing to do with the death of the Bat's parents.

I've finally seen it.. After reading the reviews here I just knew it was good. This definently is the best Batman movie, and hopefully they will do another one just as good as this one.
By the way, ScareCrow is a great villian.

Didn't the joker do the same thing the bad guy in this movie did?
...
Attempt to do?
...
I hate being vague.
Oh, apollo said it.
No holds barred then lol.
Didn't the joker try to do a XXXXXXXX attack on gotham in a previous movie too?
I was nice.

Jim
So did Mr Freeze, and the Penguin and all the other villians in the Bat movies. That's what villians do.

I didn't read comic books growing up so I wouldn't know. Thanks for the input.

I admit to being a Comic Book Geek. It is one of my many failings.

I loved it- Thought it was great. You really believe that Bruce Wayne is crazy enough to be Batman. Then again Christian Bale's six pac ( more like ten) is enough to make the movie enjoyabe as well.

Hey, that's not a bad thing. Remember, you're talking to someone who speaks Klingon and still builds Star Trek models.

Go post a pro bush post on D-U in Klingon and see how long it takes to get deleted!
I dare ya!

That is a badge of honor. I posted once at the Drunken Underground, referred to how Bill Clinton got caught lying and was banned. I couldn't post their if I wanted to. Besides, the losers there aren't worth my time.

I give it a ***1/2 out of four stars. One problem I had with the film, however, was the way Bale's voice sounded when he was Batman.

was the way Bale's voice sounded when he was Batman.
Remember he was going for the fear thing, therefore he had to change his voice and even his personality to something more Demonic.
BTW, I am a Spiderman Guy myself, though I hated what they did to him in the movies. I also have here a couple of "Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight" comics, pretty mature actually, I might invest one day into getting more. Though these are several years old, perhaps alot older than I realize.

Yeah, I realize that, but what I mean is that my problem was not with him changing his voice, but just the way it sounded when he did so.

Oh no I loved his voice- it wasn't demonic it was sexy- unless you think thats demonic. lol
I did make fun of it in the theater but I thought it was clever and fun.
