Rock legends QUEEN have beaten ELVIS PRESLEY and THE BEATLES to be named the most successful music act in UK album chart history.

The Guinness World Records have released shocking figures, which prove Queen has overtaken The Beatles for the first time, by spending a staggering 1,322 weeks in the British charts compared with the Fab Four's 1,293 weeks.

Queen frontman FREDDIE MERCURY died from an AIDS-related illness in 1991, but the band are still touring and their popularity has been boosted by the success of London musical WE WILL ROCK YOU.

The Book of British Hit Singles and Albums compiled the list, which places The Beatles in second place followed by Presley and Irish rockers U2, while SIR ELTON JOHN and MICHAEL JACKSON languish at the bottom of the chart at numbers nine and ten respectively.

No surprise here, really. I still play my Queen CD's with regularity. I also have heard that Queen is touring with a replacement singer. I don't know if I could listen to Queen with no Freddie. He really made that band.

The only Queen song I've ever heard that I know is by Queen is the theme song to The Highlander with that gorgeous hook, "Do you want to live forever?"

I heard not long ago that Iran is allowing the music to be sold now (http://www.ananova.com/entertainment/story/sm_1075767.html?menu=entertainment.showbizquirkies ). Freddie was never allowed to return to his homeland because he was known to be openly gay. But for some reason they let it slide now.

One of the best (if not the best) vocalist of all time.

I have to agree here. Queen's lyrics are some of the most twisted and convoluted around regarding adolescence and development. I mean old Freddie boy was one messed up child, living out his demons in the purging psychodrama of a stage.

I'm not sure what went on in his home. I don't think I want to know.

I wish more people had the balls to try real rock opera. It definitely has its place.

Every time the fans sing that adolescent rant in the football stands We will, we will ROCK YOU! I keep hearing Hey! Hey! Hey! Ho! Western Culture's Got to Go!

The Beatles had far more panache.

The Beatles had far more panache.

They certainly had better haircuts, until that is they discovered the joys of the hookah, layed into the sounds of sitars and began reciting the Maharishi's multi-level marketing scheme.

In terms of Western Culture, the Beatles lost it somewhere between Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, the Yellow Submarine and the Walrus.

Drugs will do that.

Prior to Sgt. Pepper's LHCB I'd have to, of course, agree with you.

The Beatles sucked beginning with Abby Road. Before that they were the best.

I have spoken.

Well living in Iran, probably all he ever knew was war. Come to think of it maybe We will Rock you is actually a Palestinian support song.

He did make the band but I gotta tell you this new guy isn't bad. Not as good as the replacement for Ronnie VanZant in Skynard, but still pretty good.

Ever listen to Freddie sing backround for David Bowie on Under Pressure? That was some of his best work.

Where rock is concerned, Beatles still rule in my opinion.
