Yesterday and today I have harvested 3 cereal bowls full of figs from the medium-sized fig tree growing next to our garage. They are delicious and very sweet. I have to harvest figs every day to beat the birds to them. Yesterday I saw no figs that had been eaten by the birds. Today I saw about a dozen figs at least partially eaten by birds.
For some reason, this year's fig harvest is the best since we planted that tree. I suspect that the reason for the abundant harvest was a wet April and May followed by an almost completely dry June that allowed them to ripen as sweet as they are.
