View Full Version : A Bad Feeling

Okay, I know this isn't the proper place for it, but I really wanted as many here at FC to see it as possible. I promise after a couple of days I will move it to the Library (hopefully y'all will indulge me a bit, http://www.freeconservatives.com/vb/images/icons/icon7.gif )
I simply MUST recommend this book I read the other day. I simply could NOT put it down. Don't know if y'all have heard of it, :smirky: . . . "A Bad Feeling."
Okay, all kidding aside, here's my honest review:
Initial Thoughts:
One of the most engaging stories I have read in quite some time. A good fiction piece, and one you don't want to end (when it does).
Positive Elements:
A "positive" storyline, several references to Christian spirituality (:thumb: ), LOTS of evidences of people of character, moral, and spirit, good picture of rugged individualism, good family dynamics (and a good vision of some not-so-good), clearly delineated "good" and "evil" no lines smearing the two (:thumb: ), moved me both to tears and laughter and not many books can do both, and a very good read!
I liked that the story was easy to "see" when you read it. There was no problem picturing the cast of characters as they might appear from the descriptions and words used. Another thing that was fun, was that it read like you were sitting down with the narrator and he was sharing a great story with you. Definitely not pretentious, and quite humorous in parts (more than a few out-loud chuckles found a remark from my Bubba, "like what ARE you reading?"
The pace of the story was good. Didn't seem to be any awkward pauses in the thought strings, and the story progressed quite logically. I like surprises, and it's very hard to surprise a serious reader . . . this one had a few (for me), and THAT alone made it worth a read.
Negative Elements:
Very, VERY few in my humble opinion.
Few naughty words, a few references to intimacy (although they were coupled with the fact that the two engaging in it were married to each other), definitely a bit on the violent side (what's a good scary monster story without action?), a few references to drinking and smoking (that's life, we're all human).
Oooh, this is hard because I do NOT want to present a "spoiler." I'll try to be discreet. At first I had a problem "envisioning" the bad guy(s) as described. Not that they WERE bad guys, but the fact of their, hmmm, should I say, outward appearnce. That's enough about that.
I had a couple of questions along the way, but nothing major to overcome. I'm sure it was NOT the story, but me, because I am such a fast reader, I tend to skim over things which at first glance don't seem important or relevant, and then later, I find myself "missing" information because I had skipped it (shame on me!).
The worst thing about the book? It ended WAY too soon . . . I was so wrapped up in the story, I wanted to know MORE about these people AFTER the last page. When you reach that final line, you find yourself thinking you "know" who they are, and you care about their life and so wish to make sure in your own mind that everything went well for them -- i.e., you want some closure to a few of the unknowns -- and that's all I'll say about that, too, :smirky: .
Conclusion:
In conclusion -- Buy it. Read it. Enjoy it. They all go hand in hand. I highly recommend it, and I KNOW it will be worth it, because it DEFINITELY was for me.

You like me...you really, really like me. (Apologies to Sally Field)
Ummmm...we'll trade the $1000 per month.
You'll be able to find out why they want....in the SEQUEL!!!
Mrs Lobo is reading the first 60 pages of it to see if I have removed the "cheesiness" of it.
She has a firm grasp of reality, and doesn't let me get away with too much silliness (unbelievable stuff) in the novels. She'd also a pretty good editor.
When we were going final on A Bad Feeling she made me WORK. I didn't even want to read it again.
You can find the book at ANY of these WORLDWIDE bookstores:
http://www.bookfinder4u.com/IsbnSearch.aspx?isbn=1411632990&mode=direct
or at lulu.com for a discount.
If you haven't read it yet, I encourage you to read my e-short story at the link in my sig.
It's free, and less than twenty pages. I think you'll enjoy it.
Given time I aim to get this book as well, just... right now i dont have the money to do so at the moment.
(still workin on getting that job which is actually in progress as I speak, wish me luck on my job interview today k?) :)

If LuLu doesn't send me my book soon I'm going to request a refund. Lobo what is their email address?
edit: Nevermind, I went to my account on their website and emailed them from there. The status is that they shipped it on 5/30. How do they send them by camel or turtle?

Warlady,
You need to try to get in touch with them ... I got mine in about a week (maybe 10 days). I don't have a phone number, but I have the address on the wrapper that the book came in if you want me to PM it to you. Something had to happen --
Hope you get it resolved!
Blessings

As requested m'lady.
Those that haven't read Getting Away With Murder can read it after a PDF download at:
http://www.lulu.com/content/130971
It's free, and only about 15 pages long (I disremember).
Enjoy, and let me know.
(P.S. Thanks WL for editing the post(s)...don't wanna give away the ending :) )
I'd appreciate any review posted at LULU. Thanks again.

Apparently, lulu is having some hardware issues (I hope not regarding my royalties), but if anyone wants to purchase the book, it can be found at any of these:

BTW, I've made it into the Australian market.
My book can now be purchased on all the continents except S. America and Antarctica.

Jim,
Lobo has graciously offered to autograph anyone's copy that wants one -- all you have to do is PM him and he'll tell you what's involved. I am currently waiting for my signed book in the mail as I type this . . . excitedly and not so patiently waiting!
Blessings,

Lobo when will the sequel be on the rack? I almost want to wait for it before I read the first one. I don't like to be left hanging. (hopes Wyatt doesn't read this post)

I am the FIRST official recipient of the FIRST officially signed copy of "A Bad Feeling" -- Whooohoooooo!!! No, I will NOT sell my copy, and I won't be offering it on E-Bay, thank you very much  .
Warlady, it's not a really BIG cliffhanger -- for most folks I'm sure they will consider it to be an ending with closure, for those of us nitpickers (like me, who cannot stand a cliffhanger of even the smallest proportions) it's a mountain of a molehill :smirky: . Don't wait to get the sequel, read it now, (my humble suggestion).

TheRealLobo-
I hate you! I hate you! I hate you! :jk:
I received your book yesterday and put it on the table beside my chair thinking "I'll start reading it tonight after dinner". Later in the afternoon during a lull in the activity around the house, I thought "Maybe I'll sneak a peek at the first few pages and get a start on it". HA! Except for that pesky hour and a half I had to stop to cook/eat dinner and various little breaks, I never stopped reading. I could not put it down! Everytime I caught myself setting the book down and telling myself to walk away, my mind kept going. What happens next? What are they going to do NOW since ??????? Hmmm, something's fishy here, maybe I should read some more to see if I am right. I was up until midnight in order to finish the book because I had to know what happened.
Thank you for such an enjoyable book! Now where is that sequel! :flame:

Why do you ask?
Just curious, but if you'd rather not say, I can respect that. I was curious because F.W. Hurst is a cool name.
TheRealLobo

To be honest, it was not the name I was given at birth.
I had it legally changed (for reasons of my own) to 'Hurst' about 10 years ago.
I considered using F. Wesley Hurst (very literate sounding, but pretentious), Frank W. Hurst, Frank Hurst, and finally settled on F.W. Hurst.

That's cool Lobo. Sounds like I just might buy it!
As a writer(nothing published, because I am relatively new at this art), I was wondering how long it took you to write this book? How much time did you spend on the first draft?

6 months for the first draft...but I wasn't writing every day.
After I finished it, I put it away for about a year...then I got it out, and changed some things.
Mrs Lobo edited for me, and she's a brilliant sadist in that regard.
I guess from start to finish, with all the breaks...Since about July of 2003 until June of 2005.
A lot of that time was spent waiting on letters to or from agents. Finally, I got tired of waiting, and decided to publish it myself.

Okay. I know it's a page turner. Lobo posted a few chapters when he was first writing it in 2003. I'm going to start from the begging though.

No, Warlady, don't wait! The cliffhanger isn't a big one, it causes no problems for the end of the book, it's just a tiny hook to keep you dangling for a minute. You'll really enjoy it. Don't wait, enjoy it now, you'll be glad you did!
