We had thought about getting a DVD player as a family gift this year. But we are now considering the Playstation 2 since it also plays DVD's do any of you have it? Is the DVD quality as good as a regular DVD player? DO you think my Sony TV remote could be configured to work with it? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Well, from what I remember reading, originally the PS2 had problems (from skipping to not playing after a certain point).
However, Sony has updated drivers. We got ours last year and the DVD quality is excellent!
I'm not sure about your other question because we only use the remote that came with it. Maybe this site (http://www.us.playstation.com/support/audioVisualSettings/) would have some answers?

Thanks! My Hubby will take a look at it we have the cable modem now so he could play online with his friends too! LOL I have to make sure all of my kids get the toys they want. http://freeconservatives.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/icon19.gif we have been considering a DVD player for awhile now, ever since we bought the new TV. We had our old one 12 years so not much worked with it's hook ups. My laptop plays them but we never could figure out how to hook it up to the old TV and we haven't tried it with this one. I bought the Grinch last year on DVD thinking we could play in on my laptop but we still haven't seen it! Maybe Christmas Day will be the day finally get the chance if he decides to get this! LOL I think it would be nice because it is something the kids really like to do with him.

Suzie, what kind of online gaming? I'm curious because back in the older days I used to play in MUDs. Then I played on MPlayer until they went to "pay to play." I also tried Warbirds. Now I've heard Everquest is incredibly fun and am intrigued.
If you do get the PS2, think of it as killing two birds with one stone. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas.

Thanks! Merry Christmas to you and yours too!
They play football online and some kind of military game. The Military thing is too violent for young children because it's pretty gruesome. He has a guy from his civilian job he plays the football with and the military one with some military buddies. He also does the Microsoft flight simulator online. I don't know the names I will have to ask him.

Ok so did you end up getting it?
I'm disappointed, I admit. I got books, Bop-It, keyboard, drums, Lincoln Logs, etc. You'd think they could muster up enough enthusiasm but no, they're only interested in the electronic games their grandparents sent. AUGGGGGH!!!!
The PS2 is going in the closet in an hour!
Before my died died he had told the fam if ANYTHING came out better than Pong, to GET IT. So we did in '77 for $199. I remember spending hours playing Combat and Air Sea Battle. I'll take vintage Atari any day!

I just bought PS2 myself, and I can say the DVD quality is excellent. Of course with all the times I've played Madden '03 since I got it, DVDs have been last on the list.

We've got a PS2 today too. I'm not much of a gamer but my boy sure has enjoyed it.
