Rove E-Mailed Security Official About Talk (http://apnews.myway.com/article/20050716/D8BC7F500.html)

WASHINGTON (AP) - After mentioning a CIA operative to a reporter, Bush confidant Karl Rove alerted the president's No. 2 security adviser about the interview and said he tried to steer the journalist away from allegations the operative's husband was making about faulty Iraq intelligence.

The July 11, 2003, e-mail between Rove and then-Deputy National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley is the first showing an intelligence official knew Rove had talked to Matthew Cooper just days before the Time magazine reporter wrote an article identifying Valerie Plame as a CIA officer.

"I didn't take the bait," Rove wrote in an e-mail obtained by The Associated Press, recounting how Cooper tried to question him about whether President Bush had been hurt by the new allegations.

The White House turned the e-mail over to prosecutors, and Rove testified to a grand jury about it last year.

Earlier in the week before the e-mail, Plame's husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, had written a newspaper opinion piece accusing the Bush administration of twisting prewar intelligence, including a "highly doubtful" report that Iraq bought nuclear materials from Niger.

"Matt Cooper called to give me a heads-up that he's got a welfare reform story coming," Rove wrote in the e-mail to Hadley.

"When he finished his brief heads-up he immediately launched into Niger. Isn't this damaging? Hasn't the president been hurt? I didn't take the bait, but I said if I were him I wouldn't get Time far out in front on this."

This whole ridiculous hullaballoo is so OVER. It's only stupid liberals who are still harping about it.

And don't tell me that liberals "care" for members of the CIA, FBI, etc. They absolutely hate them. Liberals believe the CIA and FBI stand for oppression, don't you know. And now they come and bleat about the safety of a CIA member.

BULL!! It's just another tiresome way of getting at this administration, that's all.

What I still find hard to believe is the degree of utterly immoral and hysterical stupidity that has penetrated every part of our media...for over 30 years I've seen it get increasing ludicrous, to a point that its beyond tragic, or even farce.

Two days ago the San Francisco Chronicle had a huge headline, almost the largest font available: "ROVE UNDER FIRE" with a 3/4 front page photo of Karl Rove and a subtitled article asking for him to resign.

Now look at the number of absurdities: Karl Rove is a political advisor (e.g. like George Stephanopolis), not a government/administration official. At the time, other than portions of a single leaked memo, no other information was availalbe for something that was not a crime. And the leak? A CIA desk officer that was part of Wilson's political carping.

Yet Democrats were trying to pass amendments, screaming insanely. The press was nearly as insane at the White House press officer. Fever everywhere...then another leak that showed the whole dubious affair to be absurd and unfounded.

Now the papers act like they had never said anything - no retractions, no apologies, no mea culpas. Democrats simply drop the issue, and Republicans let them. After unprecedented immoral behavior; we just move on without justice for the accused. We move on to the next foul mouthed mud slinging.

I hate them all, I hate humanity.

just doing a little recon over at DU. Don't worry, I went through decontamination already. Anyway, the retards over there are all holding their breath as another of their pet conspiracy theories shrivels in the light of day. A few are still holding out hope that Fitzgerald will indict Rove. Idiots! They really think Fitzgerald is investigating Rove. Just too funny.

DU is http://www.democraticunderground.com

This is further proof that as Fitzgerald has stated repeatedly that KARL ROVE IS NOT A TARGET OF HIS INVESTIGATION. Are Democrats deaf as well as dumb and blind?
