Mike is truly sick; a lost soul.

Mike Tyson: "I'm definitely not fighting anymore. I've talked to some people, I just talked to a gentleman named Jimmy, whose involved with club Jenna, you know Jenna Jameson. They said they were interested in getting me involved in that kind of business as well."
GL: Seriously?
Mike Tyson: "Yeah, the adult film industry. What do you think about that Minister?

Well, we remember from his trial that Mike has "larger than normal anatomy," which seems to, uh, go down well in that line of work.
What a sorry end to a magnificent talent.

Quote from Tyson
"When you're typing this interview, make sure you put it in there that I am the stupidest fighter in the history of the game. Just the dumbest mother...... ever."
We know this already. Add a great waste of talent and a waste of effort by Cuss D'amato, Jacobs, Cayton, Rooney and Atlas.

No kidding. He was my favorite for so long. I hate boxing and he was the only one I could stand to watch even, just because of his sheer strength. I don't even know that it was talent, just power. But as soon as he started biting ears, I was done with that thinking. Downhill ever since :(

Well, he DOES have a history of treating women like his personal playthings. Just ask Desiree Washington.

Ask her why she'd walk into Mike Tyson's hotel room at 2:00 AM in the morning, and whether she thought she was being invited so some sort of a bible service...

The two premier fighters of the last 50 years or thereabouts are Roy Jones and Roberto Duran. Tyson wasn't remotely close to to that sort of talent.

oooh...you might be a little less certain about that.
Have we forgotten Ali, Frazier, Norton...well, I could name a lot of guys from the 60s and on that would spank Jones and Duran.
Did anyone see Tuesday night fights?
Peterson will be fun to watch as he grows in the game. He's got a pretty good chin, and his hands move like greased lightning.

One fighter who never received his just due is Larry Holmes. He held the title for 7 years and went 48 straight bouts before being defeated, which is second only to Rocky Marciano.
He invested his money well and created Larry Holmes Enterprises that includes real estate properties that he owns such as a complex that leases to some Fortune 500 companies and Federal and local government agencies including a Federal Courthouse. He also owns Ringside Restaurant and Nightclub, a boxing gym, a travel agency, etc. and his company created and marketed a pain relief lotion. His businesses bring him a profit of $700,000 a year. He also is also a philanthropist who donates to and serves on various boards of boys clubs. He has been married to the same woman for 26 years.

IMO the best boxers of all time were Sugar Ray Leonard, Sugar Ray Robinson and Ali. The best fighters, IMO, were Duran (as a lightweight) and Tyson.
In his prime Duran was a guerrero. I never forgave him for his "no mas" debacle.
IMO, Hagler beat Sugar Ray Leonard. It seemed like they didn't count all those gut shots.

Duran was despised in Panama after that one. I was there for both. After he beat Leonard the whole country went delirious, driving around honking horns for hours. After he gave up in the second one, people spat on his photo in the newspaper at the bus stop.

I don't like boxing, and I sure don't like Tyson. So whatever Mikey decides to do, I won't be part of the audience.
Tyson is lost, alone, and has no advocate. I can't imagine how that must feel.

A true fight fan. I agree Holmes is the most underated fighter of our time. He took them all on and could do it all. Holmes just followed Ali and that was a tough act to follow. Larry just didn't have the personality to capture the fans. I dont think he ever got over the fans turning on him when he fought Cooney.
As for Duran he was a great fighter and remember the "No Mas" was past his prime and it happened at 147lbs. In an interview he said he had a choice, No Mas or Mucho Mess. Beside him I dont think anyone around 147lbs comes close to either Sweet Pea or Julio Cesar Chavez. IMO They were also without a doubt the best of their times. And I also agree that Hagler beat Leonard. To be the champ you need to BEAT the champ, not fight going backwards and throwing little fluries at the end of each round. Sorry DF one of the few times I'll go against you.
I remember Holmes vs. Conney. That was a textbook illustration of the "sweet science". What a beating.
I also appreciated Holmes' restraint when he fought Ali.

Duran was a vastly better fighter AND boxer than Leonard, Ray Robinson, or Ali.
It's one thing to move up weight divisions while you're 20 years old and your body is still growing. What Duran did in moving up two divisions starting at age 28 - 30 to stomp Ray Leonard who was 23 years old and at his absolute peak in the higher weight division at the time is theoretically impossible. That would be like David beating Goliath in a fist fight when David was 30 and Goliath was 23.
If Ray Leonard had ever faced a version of Duran his own size, they'd have carried Leonard out in a wheelbarrow like they were carrying all the 135 lb Ray Leonard look-alikes out in 74.
