A screenwriter for the blockbuster film "War of the Worlds (http://www.waroftheworlds.com/)" says the malevolent Martian attackers represent the American military randomly slaughtering Iraqi civilians.

Dave Koepp voiced his controversial explanation of the movie script to an obscure Canadian horror magazine titled Rue Morgue (http://www.rue-morgue.com/), "apparently thinking no one would notice," writes U.S. News columnist John Leo.

Meanwhile, the screenwriter gave the same jarring analysis to USA Weekend, noting that "the Martians in our movie represent American military forces invading the Iraqis, and the futility of the occupation of a faraway land is again the subtext."

Leo, for his part, said he thinks the Martians "symbolize normal Americans, while those being attacked are the numbskulls who run Hollywood."

The film, directed by Steven Spielberg, is an adaptation of H.G. Wells' 1898 novel.

The columnist noted that Hollywood has grown so "eye-poppingly angry with the rest of the country, mostly over Bush and Iraq" that even "mild-mannered nonpropagandists" like George Lucas of Star Wars fame "have come under pressure to display their lefty credentials with silly political touches."

Goody! I'll try to remember not to see this idiot flick by accident. Seein' as how it's got Tom Cruise in it, that shouldn't be hard.

I saw it; regretted it - especially now. Stupid plot. I mean, is fleeing alien invaders while thousands of people are being vaporized right and left the time to resolve long-standing family issues with your son? And that screaming kid -- SHUTUP!!!!!!

Other than watching millions of liberals in New York and Boston being wiped out, I saw nothing redeeming about that movie.

The message for me is - see what happens when you let in illegal aliens?

I saw it and aside from a vague and random wish that the kids would be vaporized so we wouldn't have to put up with them any longer the movie was quite good. Great special effects.

The invasion reminded me more than anything of the mexican invasion. The scene of people walking through the countryside with the neat little homes and green grass, then when Tom Cruise came out of the basement, the whole countryside had become ruined and horrifying.

I've seen that happen so many times, in so many neighborhoods.

The ONLY part that I enjoyed was when Tom Cruise, in a fit of anger, threw a slice of bread slathered with peanut butter, and it stuck on a window.

Can someone help me find out how I can make a living on stupid movie to politics parallels? People eat this shit right up. Did you guys know that Jurassic Park is really an allegory to the crusades? Well, not really, but I bet I could bs my point enough to get it published.

Yeah, and "The Village" is really a political commentary about controlling the masses with fear after 9/11.
