Okay, so what's wrong with me? In celebration of slain Civil Rights Leader Martin Luther King's day (week?), if I watch enough news, I should be out there with my black brethren yelling, screaming, and looking to burn every free waving set of Stars and Bars I run across. So what's wrong? Shouldn't I be offended as well?

In a way, yes. I am. And here's why:

I had ancestors who fought on both sides of that war - which was anything but civil.

Surprised?

Yes, in Northern Mississippi in fact. Cousin against cousin. One man trying to protect what was his, and one who escaped slavery only to be drafted into taking his cousin's land away. This little fact, along with all the arguments about Southern Heritage, Southern Pride, and Remembering the Gentlemen who died in that war gets lost in all the noise about why it's so "insensitive."

And I am just fed up with it.

More than that, I'm fed up with the yellow bellied white guys who don't have the guts to fight back on the issue. I know, no one wants to get labeled the "R" word. To politicians, it's a label that's worse than being called a liar, an adulator or a draft dodger. And heaven knows, you white guys in the public sector better not even bring it up at work, or in public. There's a civil rights lawsuit with your name on it. Yet, I know how many of you - especially you folks south of the Mason-Dixon line must feel right now.

Dixie: Enough is Enough!

As many of you know, we at the Ranch, strive not to advocate violence. We do not advocate the initiation of force to achieve social or political goals. But in the case of my Southern Heritage and the most recent assaults, self-defense against hostility is the least that can and should be advocated here.

It's not like this has come out of the blue. In an open letter to the NAACP, I publicly asked that organization to denounce the vandalism and assaults that were taking place against the Confederate Battle Flag and those who support the cause. In the most recent case, Curtis Collier was beaten and robbed early Sunday while walking to his campsite after the Mule Days festival in Fayetteville, NC. He was beaten on the face and head, and the reason, he believes, is due to his wearing a Confederate Flag on his shirt.

Despite his injuries, Collier still has his Rebel shirt. It's in pieces and covered in blood. His injuries are pretty serious.

The lists of other assaults against Southern Heritage are too long to list here. Those who have confederate roots are aware of many of them. Still, there will be some among us who will not agree with this "Call to Battle."

We have witnessed our representatives use the soap box, the ballot box, and even the jury box to plead their cases. Not only are they shunned when the law is on their side, we have been met by repeated injury. We have publicly asked those who wish to destroy our Heritage to condemn such violence. But words are not enough. Some of us have been subjected to physical abuse. For those who choose not to follow the charge, I can only ask that you quietly
support those 'gray coats' who have decided on their own to meet such aggression head on.

Hear me, Southern Man.

The time has come the when such force against our Southern Brethren should be met with equal and opposite force. Regrettably, I must conclude that no other means are available to convince would-be attackers; that if the Pride of Dixie could not be vanquished by Northern Aggression, it shall not be subdued by ignorant Yankees. I assume the first act of forceful defense will be heard around the country. They will call it a 'hate crime' even when that
Southern Man defends himself or his family. But I now believe a sound defense against that next aggressor will send the only message to those who will not stop their attacks that they will understand. Perhaps it will convince many parents to tell their children, "Leave those rebels alone. They got a mean streak."

Yes, we do. And we've been more than peaceful in defending this cause over the last few months and for that, many of us walk down the streets of Dixie in fear. We didn't start this, but by the Grace of God Almighty, we WILL finish it; (it's already been written). If that's the message those Southern Haters want to send, fine. We will now be speaking their own language. I call on ALL of Dixie to expect and be prepared to be the next victim of an
anti-Southern criminal assault, and take all necessary steps to defend themselves, their families, their property, and the symbols we all hold dear.

We still have rights, don't we?

Yes, Southern Haters. Go ahead and take this message in or out of any context you want. You never have anything good to say about us anyway. You can't wait to use the word "hate" in your reports, but never when one of US becomes the victim. Call the Traitors in Montgomery. Call your Fascist in Baltimore. Call your Criminals in the Justice Department. Tell, them those Southern Heritage Folks are going to defend themselves with whatever means at their disposal - with FORCE, if force is used against them. You brought this on
yourselves. The Southern Man 'hates' double standards. And we don't need a "hate crime law" to protect us. Tell your minions that our gentlemanly tradition will continue. But if and when the next attack occurs, the perpetrators can brag about their attempted assaults from a hospital room, or worse.

If you aren't feeling the sting of a white glove against your face, then I haven't swung it hard enough.

May the Good Lord show mercy on the next criminal who assaults the Symbols of Dixie or her ancestors, because from this point forward, that may be all the mercy you get here on earth. By our opponent's actions, they have established the Rules of Engagement.

...and we have nothing left to lose.

Black leader defends Confederate
Flag, responds to violent attackers

Confederate Flag defender, political activist, former President of the Asheville chapter of the NAACP and 52-year-old black man, H.K. Edgerton was recently accosted by two black men while standing by his confederate flag in front of Asheville High School. Though he was appalled by the alleged violent actions of 19-year-old high school drop-out Andre Dewayne and 32-year-old Kevin Miller, he concedes, "I know and understand their pain because they've been lied to for so long. A lot of people know nothing about that time in history."

Describing the event, Edgerton recalls, "A man approached me quickly and when he got a foot away from me, he lunged at me, tried to grab my flag, spit on me, spit on my flag, bent my flag pole. Then another man, who was older, came. I thought he was going to stop him, but he joined in, striking and spitting on me and bending my flag even more." Edgerton said the incident left lingering injuries to his shoulder.

Though Edgerton empathizes with the anguish of the two men he asserts, "You have to know how to conduct yourselves. And give a man a chance to speak. Many people have heckled me and cursed at me. When giving speeches I've had blacks heckle me and they had to be removed in Columbia and Charleston, but never has anyone accosted me or my flag. It is my 1st amendment right to take a stand, and you must not violate my right to do so."

Edgerton blames the media and the educational system for creating the perception that exists today regarding southern history. "This is a continuation about the lies of the Christian southern white folks during the Civil War. African Americans in this country don't know a thing about that war and that time. They see that flag and someone says slavery and it all falls apart and they think of Southern Christian white folks as being evil."

"We can't let the stars and stripes get away that easy. Never were the stars and bars flag flown over a slave ship. And you want to know why? Because it's a Christian Battle Flag that was emulated after St. Andrew, Jesus Christ's first disciple. In 69 A.D. in Petro, Greece -- now a part of Russia -- St. Andrew was jailed because of his teaching and preaching of Jesus Christ, his Lord and Master, and he was told he was going to be crucified on the cross. He begged that persecutor not to nail him to that Latin cross in the shape of "T" because he was not worthy of being punished the way Jesus Christ had been nailed. So he begged to be tied in an X-shape to the cross and the persecutor did what he asked him to. That X is a Greek symbol to CH, the first two letters in Christ's name. When St. Andrew was on the cross he continued his teaching of Christ and all the folks started believing him and for three days he remained on that cross teaching and after three days they begged the persecutor to take him down and when he
did, St. Andrew came down off that cross and died, and he became a martyr and a saint.

"When (Civil War Confederate ) General Beaureguard decided they needed another flag, he chose the cross of St. Andrew for these reasons. Most Southerners, in fact, did not want to do away with the stars and stripes because they didn't feel they had done anything wrong. They thought it was the north who was eradicating the Constitution.

JJ Johnson is a good man, though a little sensational.

Blacks have as much to lose in the denigration of Southern culture as any of the rest of us do. For example, when southern accents are identified with ignorance or stupidity, it affects southern blacks as much as it affects southern whites.

JJ is not a part of the neo-Marxist faus leaders inthe so-called Civil Rights movement, obviously.

Mr Edgerton is saying this isn't properly about race or North-South; it's about Christian beliefs.

The 1A rights to freedom of religion and expression is what the Stars and Bars represent. It's on those grounds that the defense should rest.

Anybody here listen to this man speak? He may be an old man, but he is full of the truth of life and is proud of his southern heritage -- as proud can be.

I've been in the South since 1992 when I first came to serve in a "Joint" billet at the Professional Military Comptroller's School at Maxwell AFB. Since then, I've gained a great perspective about a people (southerners) that I gladly stereotyped as "probably racist" when I grew up in the "pristine" north.

Today, I'd rather be here than back home because I've found the folks here to be much more "aligned" to my way of thinking and less accepting of the bulconguava emanating from the northeast. Pound-for-pound, there are more true "Americans" in "my" south than anywhere else in the country.

There are more American patriots here in the south and many of them view the Confederate Flag as a symbol of resistance of the War Against Northern Aggression. Not one of the southerners I know today has ever upheld the flag and uttered epithets against black folk -- the defense of the flag is for it's earned prestige as a symbol of battlefield bravery, honor, and as a symbol of the gallantry of the men who fought under it. It is part of the fact of American history – a part we should study lest we make similar mistakes in the future. Demonizing southern patriots for what liberal mind-readers “know” they think, is the absolute worst way to proceed.

I've never been one for the current, rampant lie of PC, and my support of the flag as a dramatic and vibrant part of American history will not waver. People can choose those things they wish to rail against, and it is just another gift from our "race-whores" that this issue has been picked by the likes of Jesse Jackson, Kiwaisi Mfume and Al Sharpton to do just that...keep them in "power" and divide the country.

Hell, many of our WWII veterans have reconciled with the enemies they fought in the "Great War." Race was involved with one of our enemies back then, but I don't see the Japanese pimps out in full force -- just the black pimps. Maybe the Americans of Japanese descent figure they need to put their efforts into lifting themselves up by their bootstraps, rather than trying to put others on a guilt trip to shame them into “fixing” problems they are not responsible for.

So far, I’ve heard some laud Warlady for a great selection of the topic and I share that sentiment. But what do y’all really thin' of the flag?

Fox what the race-pimps are doing is an abomination. Educators are completely rewriting our history on the Civil War. They are teaching our kids that the Civil War was only about slavery. That the Confederate flag represents racism. That is so far from the truth it is sickening. The race-pimps are trying to start another civil war. This time it's about money and power and dividing our country and political correctness. The race card works and the challenge is to make it stop working.

I've really enjoyed this thread because I've long felt that the attack on the Confederate Flag is for some men and women a way to keep the Civil War from ending.

Defeat of the South and emancipation was never the goal of the embittered hate filled leftists who gobbled up the south in 1864 or the present day hate filled zelots who are attempting to destroy a symbol of states rights in 2002. It almost seems as if no apology; no politically correct piece of legislation will be punishment enough to sooth their hate.

Once they demolish this flag, they will find something else to hate of the South and will turn their energies in that direction .

I think I'll buy a few Confederate flags.
