Swimming for a cure
The cheers from the crowd grew as the first few swimmers closed in on the final stretch to shore.

. . .

Upon touching ground, each emerged from the water slick and out of breath, yet still managed to charge up the sand with energy. It was the annual Trans Tahoe Relay, a six-hour relay swim across the width of Lake Tahoe that drew more than 70 swimmers.

One participant . . . did not . . . have relay team members to break up the 10.2-mile distance. He swam alone.

On Saturday, Martinez native Keris Dahlkamp joined a small group of people who have crossed the lake in one stretch. . . He was . . . swimming to raise money for the Arthritis Foundation.

What would REALLY impress me is if someone dove to the bottom of Lake Tahoe for charity!

Ride in a car with Ted Kennedy behind the wheel up there and you might get the chance.

Why Thomas? I've been to Lake Tahoe. It's a beautiful lake. Located between the California and Nevada border is the Ponderosa Ranch where Bonanza was filmed. (for those of you who are old enough to remember that western series.) It's breathtakingly beautiful up there. I did better in Vegas than I did in Reno though...regarding the casinos. :( Rino is too tight.

If you drive up to Reno on I-80, you will billboards for every casino advertising that it has the certified "loosest" slots. It's all BS, but since I don't gamble, I don't care.

:moo: I once swam 7½ miles without stopping. I'd love to swim across Lake Pontchartrain.

:um: But first, I'd have to get back in shape.
