DAVIE -- The first full-pads practice of camp resulted in one Dolphin crying, but not because of any physical contact.

Rookie defensive tackle Manny Wright left the field in tears Tuesday after he was chewed out by coach Nick Saban before the session had even begun.

Wright, who was wearing a red(no-contact) jersey because of a back injury, was confronted by Saban as others began pre-practice stretching. An animated Saban took off his hat and pointed to his head as trainer Kevin O'Neill approached. Wright began to weep as he returned to the locker room, wiping his face with his jersey.

Wright returned to the practice 30 minutes later and spoke with Saban during a water break.
Wright, who was selected in the fifth round of the supplemental draft this month, received limited snaps the rest of the session.

"He's probably not in as good of shape as he needs to be in," Saban said of the 6-foot-6, 329-pound Wright. "He is having some of the same issues and problems with soreness, tight back and those types of things, so we are trying to work him and manage him through it as best we can.

"As you well know, young players need to develop the kind of mental toughness and attitude that they need to be professionals. So we are trying to help him with that, too. . . .

I'd cut that guy in a heartbeat. You don't need a guy like that in the NFL. God forbid he gets a bruise. He'd probably go into shock after he called his mommie.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

SUCK IT UP, BITCH! LOL:devilange

There is a lot of pressure in training camp and it is easy to get emotional. Lots of players do break out in tears resulting from fustration, the prospect of not making it, etc. Coaches are the best at bringing out the little boy in a man. It seems odd that this would make the news and therefore publically humiliate the guy who did no more than get emotional when pressure was put on him.

I know that commonly when karate students are moving up to black belt, many are generally in tears while going through promotion. Pressure can bust a pipe.

I actually kinda like it that the guy cried. That shows he's accessible. But it IS sorta comical. The norm in pro sports anymore is more along the lines of, if the coach gets on your ass, you strangle him or leave camp in a huff or force management to choose between coach and player, etc.

I remember back when I played football... They thought I sucked since I was shy, though I was a big but weaker than the other big guys. Ofcourse I also had 3-4 years of TaeKwondo (or however its spelled) working for me aswell.

I usually did nothing or was in some position I was incompetent at, it wasn't until one game that I finally got put in, they put me in as noseguard and basically told me just to slam into the guy infront of me and not to worry about it. Apparently I didn't suck so bad since each time I would break through the line and tackle whoever happened to have the ball.. It got so bad for them that they stopped running the ball at all, and just tried to pass it.

We won 40 to nothing, I ain't bullshittin. At first my teammates said it was a fluke, and that the other players were just a bunch of sissies, ofcourse I repeated the samething in practice against the best of our players. Anyway, at the end of the school year I got a award for "Most Valuable player" of the year.

Yup, if I had stuck with it I could of gone pro.. But, if I had stayed it would of put all the other players to a standard they could never match, so in my compassion I only played that one year. (Plus I hated staying afterschool to run endless laps around the farking football feild)

Exactly DF. He probably should have held it until he got inside, but I don't fault him for it. Whatever was said reached him deep down and might make him a better man.

Just wondering, have you ever seen military commanders bring such a response to privates?

Noseguards are the ugly dudes. They are the garbage men of football. I was a linebacker and I would never mess with the NG.

have you ever seen military commanders bring such a response to privates? Not "commanders," who are, ahem, officers and gentlefolk.

Sergeants, now, they make young fellers cry all the time. Well, they did when I's startin' out. I think since then they got kinded and gentled down.
