At a time when his loved ones are making funeral arrangements for a dedicated family man killed defending his country, a Kansas minister is making plans to use the funeral of Sgt. Christopher Taylor as a platform to push his anti-gay agenda.

Fred Phelps and his Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan sent out press releases Wednesday announcing that his group would picket and preach at the Opelika funeral. The release is filled with anti-gay language and is headed by the line “Thank God for Improvised Explosive Devices Killing Americans in Strange Lands.”

:smirky: I think the Rever-und Phelps will be spending eternity surrounded by people he doesn't like.

No matter where he goes, he's likely to be surrounded by people he doesn't like. It would be funny if he went to heaven only to find out people like Bob Hope, Ronald Reagan, Mr. Rogers, Pope John Paul II, and others who he's assured us were burning in hell were there instead. Heaven would become hell for Fred.

Fred Phelps is an attention whore. He only does these things to get people to look at him and talk about him.

Nonetheless, he's a sick pervert for doing this.

:smirky: Actually, I was thinking he might end up next door to Matthew Shepard.

Someone at the funeral needs to pull Fred off to the side and beat the hell out of him.

I'll tell you what, if he came to my son's funeral and did that I'd make sure he did not leave there without being severly injured, or possibly dead. If he hates the country so much to protest are armed Men and Women fighting overseas, he needs to get the F*** out.

He has as much right to protest the war as anyone else, but using the pulpit to do it is a no-no. The SoBaptist Conference needs to examine this person and determine if he truly represents the teachings of Christ. If not, remove his representation on the SBC. Then let the IRS attackhis sorry ass for the fraud he has become.

“We will be at the funeral to picket and and preach and let everyone know that these soldiers are dying because God is retaliating, picking off the soldiers one by one, the soldiers that are fighting for an America that is allowing homosexuals and sodomites to take over,” Phelps said in a telephone interview Wednesday. “We’ve been to seven funerals this week and we’ll be in Opelika to spread God’s word.” --Fredito the clown

I have a feeling one of these puppet shows of his is going to end up with Freddy becoming severely incapacitated, if not turned into a corpse. A little buzzard told me.

Tac, that is what I was meaning actually. Everyone has a right to protest (Even though 99.9% of all protests are bullshit) but not at a soldier's funeral.

What I find most funny about Phelps is that he says, "Homos and Fags are taking over.":hahaha:

:smirky: Or, it could be because the Rever-und Phelps is not a Southern Baptist. I could be wrong, but I believe Westboro Baptist Church is part of the Primitive Baptist denomination.

While his church says they are associated with the Primative Baptist church, the Primative does not mention Westboro as a member site.

What I find most funny about Phelps is that he says, "Homos and Fags are taking over."Yeah, he repeated himself.

He's a nutcase, and eventually someone will definitively deal with him. However, as I watch what's going on the USofA and the world, there is more than a little truth to what he said. Then again, living in MA, Queer Central East, maybe I'm a bit more sensitive to the march of the deviates.

I don't know if they're taking over, or that people trying to pretend that they are "more enlightened" are giving legitimacy to them for some reason. But let's not act like this is a new phenomenon. In ancient Roman and Grecian societies, homosexuality was not seen as outside the norm. Then morals and values swung back in the other direction. There is an ebb and a flow to this and unfortunately abhorent behavior being acceptable is on the upswing, but at some point society is going to say "enough" and it will swing back the other way. It always has and always will until the good Lord claims his earth again.

As for Mr. Phelps...I do not think he is going to get the eternal reward he is expecting...and for me that is quite comforting.... http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_2_32.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZNxdm801YYUS)

He can do it in the pulpit, on the steet corner, on his web site, or anywhere else he pleases. We, however, can ignore him, protest against him, or laugh at him as much as and whenever we want to. If he incites someone to do violence to gays (homesexuals/fags/queers/poofters), he should be prosecuted under appropriate laws.

He has as much right to protest the war as anyone else, but using the pulpit to do it is a no-no. I disagree in part. The pulpit is precisely where he should be free to protest whatever he wants. But I draw a BIG FAT line at another's funeral. No matter how odious the deceased may be, the funeral is for the family members. Sure, the minister makes a blessing over the body, but no power on earth can affect that, no matter how loud. It's certainly no secret how much I detest homosexuality, but the proper forum is elsewhere.

A well-placed tire iron would solve this problem nicely.

I agree, but in this case the SOLDIER did nothing wrong. He is going to protest homosexuality, but at least from what I've read this soldier wasn't homosexual. This man was a FAMILY MAN (wife and kids) who did nothing more dispicable than going to Iraq to fight for this country and died there. But Mr. Phelps wants to turn this into being about Gays...which there is no basis to since this man IS NOT GAY!

Yump. You're right on all counts. Revrunt Phelps made his name by holding up placards reading "God Hates Fags" at funerals of individuals who died of AIDS. That's the kind of act guaranteed to incur the wrath of the Pink Contingent, but they're perpetually mad about something anyway.

I'm mystified why he would go out of his way to incur the wrath of the entire Red State population by protesting at a slain soldier's funeral.

Whether any particular soldier is gay or not, he (or she) is a member of a "fag army" and thus deserves to die and burn in hell (according to Phelps).

To most effectively cause America to know her abominations (Ez. 16:2), WBC will picket the funerals of these Godless, fag army American soldiers when their pieces return home. WBC will also picket their landing spot, in Dover, Delaware early and often.
Face it, America! You have become a fag-filled nation of flag worshipers and necromancers. Your only terrorist is the Lord your God! He fights against you personally. "And I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger, and in fury, and in great wrath" (Jer. 21:5).

But, to extend this logic, we must also conclude that he is a member of a fag church, and is preaching to other fags who are destined to go to South Texas to sit on a manhole cover in August for all eternity.
