Just saw "Troy" on DVD, it was on sale over at the store. I had heard it wasn't that good so I didn't expect much from it.
When I first saw Achilies, and the type of person he was, I thought the entire movie was going to be rather shallow... I was very wrong! He evolved, and the story evolved, and became something better, and the ending had me very moved.
It isn't the greatest movie of all movies, but it sure is better than most movies, so I am very glad to have the DVD. I give it a 5 out of 5!
I got it too. A very good movie.

It was good. Except I was pretty shocked at how many times you saw Brad Pitt naked, or how many different women he fell in love with. . . sickening.

He didn't fall inlove with all those women, he just slept with them. But for that reason I said: "When I first saw Achilies, and the type of person he was, I thought the entire movie was going to be rather shallow..."
The movie is definently NOT Christian, but not much is these days. But I didn't find it so bad that it ruined the entire movie.

Well, if you've read the original Greek mythological sources, Achilles was definitely a womanizer and then some. It's even claimed that his close friend Patroclus (mentioned in the Iliad) was supposedly his gay lover, though the translation from the original Greek may imply something else altogether.

I liked the movie. I just didn't like the negative comments about the gods. Sure they were talking about the pagan gods but still it is the same anti-God message that Hollywood loves to profess in their movies.
The same thing disgusted me about the movie Chicago, in which one of the main charaters is told something bad happened and she says "Jesus, Mary and Joseph". The other woman told her that she was looking for help in the wrong place.
I have been avoiding anythinhg hollywood for several months now.

I liked it! Brad Pitt was good in it and I'm not a Brad fan. It also had many Historical flaws in it. Hollywood has problems with that!

Just so, Apollo! I liked it too . . . very much, for all the reasons you stated and more. I own the film. Screw the critics.
Besides, the opening sequel where Achilles (Brad Pitt) confidently runs toward the opposition's champion and swiftly slays him is cool. The film had me from that moment on.
