Lawmakers Consider Stamps on Bullets
Fox News
Wednesday, August 03, 2005

LOS ANGELES — Lawmakers in California now have two bills on the table that could aid in the search for gun-firing assailants.

Forensics investigators currently have the ability to match the unique signature on every bullet to the gun it was fired from. The problem then becomes, for detectives and law enforcement, finding the gun itself and the person who fired it.

California Senate Bill 357 and its sister bill Assembly Bill 352 would have all new guns stamp an I.D. number on shell casings as they fire, and require every semi-automatic handgun sold after Jan. 1, 2009, to be equipped with the new microstamping technology that assigns traceable serial numbers to individual bullets.

According to these proposals, any semi-automatic not on California's Section 12131 roster —the list of weapons that do not possess the ability to create microstamps — will be defined as an "unsafe" handgun...

What makes these brilliant law makers think criminals won't just steal bullets too to go with the unregistered stolen guns. THAT is the true 'next logical step'. This brings to mind the adage about a frog being put in a pot of water, and slowing raising the temperature...Lit'l by lit'l slowly they crept the next logical step will be just confiscating all the weapons...**Shakes fist at fellow Californians** support your local gun dealer and start stocking up now LOL

Asshats! Pick up the brass and the numbers go with it. Jeez! Sounds like some mind-numbed liberal saw "Judge Dredd" and liked the Lawgiver IDing technology.

It was bad enough when the clueless legislators wanted every case prestamped from the factory. These morons want the guns themselves to stamp the serial numbers. Would any gun maker in the world design a whole new line of firearms, adding a new layer of complexity and potential jamming/misfiring, to satisfy the demands of a gaggle of farking ignorant sons of bitches in Sacramento?

It's an absolutely shameless crushing of the Second Amendment, inasmuch as its purpose is a back-door outlawing of firearm sales in CA. And what will be the effect on crime? Only negative.

Sacramento, like Boston, needs a nuclear urban renewal.

Don't even need to do that.

Go to your local range and grab a couple fistfuls of spent brass from the barrel.

Throw handfuls around the shoting scene and watch the fun begin.

For additional confusion, use several dozen different calibers and makes.

Don't think so and maybe that's the real idea.

Wow... that is plum funny :)

Depends on how you stamp it... if they were just 'stamped' with some form of ink, the whole stamping apparatus could be fairly small... but then just spit on a shell after you shoot someone and rub the ink off. If they are stamped hard enough the leave a mark, you would have a stamping machine larger than the gun. But then all you need is a piece of emery cloth and there is no stamp...
