Chestnuts roasting on an open fire tralalala

My new property has a lot of chestnut trees on it. These things are really hard to open. Chestnuts come protected with a really spiny and gooey outer layer than you have to cut open to get a the nut. I have cut up my hands a little trying to open them from time to time. Somehow my dog does this with his mouth!!!
