WASHINGTON — A majority of Hispanics born in the United States don't think illegal Hispanic immigrants should be given drivers' licenses, according to a new poll. Most foreign-born Hispanics disagree, according to the polling for the Pew Hispanic Center.
Six in 10 Hispanics born in this country approve of measures to prohibit illegal immigrants from getting drivers' licenses, while two-thirds born in another country disapprove of such measures.

being half mexican and born in this country , i am happy the majority of US born hispanics agree on this . the 1/3 of foreign borns who agree also are probally the ones who come here legitamly
I am glad to see this as well. Shouldn't matter where your original nationality is (by original, I mean your where your family came from), everyone should recognize that illegals are illegal and should not support them obtaining legal rights in this country, including driving. No one should support someone who is here illegally just because said person came from one's original land of family origin.

Which only proves that, contrary to popular media opinion, this is NOT a Hispanic vs Non-Hispanic issue... Its an American Citizen vs Illegal Alien issue...
Im glad to see this...

I'm part Mexican, part Spanish, and 100 percent natural-born American. The illegals and those who support them can go screw themselves.

I don't believe a word of it. The poll is skewed.

I'd say this puts a dent in the belief that to crack down on illegals would hurt a large voting block for the GOP. Many hispanics are here legally and I have no doubt that they feel that if they went through proper channels and contribute to the tax base, so should ALL Hispanics.

I don't understand. Why does anybody care whether Hispanics back giving driver's licenses to illegals or not? Or whether Americans of German, English, Czech, Polish, Irish, or Scottish descent do? Are Hispanics supposed to have some special veto over legislation denying illegals' driver's licenses? What is the point?

Read up a couple posts to Laz's comment. I believe he summed up the point quite well.

Yes, he makes his point quite well. But the broader point is why do politicians need an "OK" of sorts from a particular ethnic group before enacting legislation that protects all American citizens? That's clearly the implication of this poll, IMO.

It's somebody with too much time on his pimply butt making those ridiculous polls. I'm Hispanic and I don't give a rat's ass about those polls. Whether Hispanics or any other group like it or not, those trespassers need to get their asses back over where they slithered from.

Aha! Now that is well said, IMO.
This poll is not to point out that an ethnic group gives an okay or not, it is to point out that the illegals in America issue is not a race issue, pinning one race against each other, but an issue about folks illegally here. Pointing out that even legal hispanics don't think illegal hispanics should get drivers license reinforces this.
Although I don't lend much weight to polls, this article did not mention the poll in connection with any politician. It was probably done to make a point.

I must disagree. For some people, it is precisely that. Otherwise, why would a political movement organize itself around "The Race" (La Raza)? Why would MeCha and the Aztlan movement loudly proclaim their intent to eradicate people of White European ancestry from the continent? These are not inconsequential movements or organizations. Their members include elected politicians, entrenched and tenured academics, and, if reports from Americanpatrol.com are to be believed, the current Attorney General of the United States.

And I disagree with you, Dowple. The poll was to make a point. A point to where Hispanics who are here legally, have done what is required to gain citizenship and get a driver's license, obviously feel that ALL should go through the citizenship process. Remember, their tax money goes to give a free ride to illegals too.
